Not specifying the gender of a newborn just makes me imagine a situation where a family asks the doctor following childbirth "Is it a boy or a girl?" and getting "Yes" back as a response.

to all the people inevitably freaking out about hburr durr bad for medical reasons biology: the identifier is literally meant to be changed later once the child is comfortable with their gender identity. if they're cis, then it'll be changed to reflect that.

It's not even gender that's registered on a birth certificate, it's sex. Unless the child is intersex the only options for sex are male or female.

Gender has no place on birth certificates, it's needlessly personal and never really set in stone unlike Date of Birth, etc.. 'Sex at Birth' on the other hand seems more reasonable imo.

this is dumb one day the kid, before going out into society, will ask their parents what they are and all they'll get in return is "yes" and once they go out and ask someone else they'll just be told "you're x" it's just delaying the inevitable, they should just list the damn sex and wait for the kid to decide when they're older they're honestly just trying to make themselves feel better
