Netflix will develop and produce a new show based on The Witcher Saga, the series of eight novels by Andrzej Sapkowski that inspired the hugely popular CD Projekt Red RPG games. Sapkowski - who does not profit from the game series - will serve as a creative consultant on the series. “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories," he explained in a press release, "staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing."
http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/05/17/netflix-to-produce-the-witcher-tv-series
Does anyone else feel like his quote is a little bit of a jab at the game series, and him being upset that he doesn't/didn't profit? 'I'm glad to be involved on the Netflix series, which will be the TRUE media representation of MY Witcher series, with all rights and benefits involved.' Regardless, I think if anyone can make a great Witcher series, it's Netflix, so I'm cautiously optimistic. I wonder if they'll go for big names or unknowns.
Just avoid being anything like the polish tv series and it's going to be fine.
I'd be pretty fucked off too if someone was using my stories to make a game without seeing a cent of it.
It was entirely his fault, he was a jackass who saw, and sees, video games as just something for stupid people. Turned out he was the stupid one.
It was entirely his fault, he was a jackass who saw, and sees, video games as just something for stupid people. Turned out he was the stupid one.
He's still salty about this, apparently
He's still salty about this, apparently
I doubt he will ever not be. He fucked himself out of a tremendous wealth and perhaps just as bad for him, more people likely associate the Witcher name with CDPR than with him and think of it as theirs first and foremost.
Someone (a Pole) told me it's more his sense of dry humor than him being truly salty, like the quotes were translated in a way that made him seem more bitter than he is. Polish FPers will have to confirm.
I'd rather have cdpr writers than sapkowski tbh
Just avoid being anything like the polish tv series and it's going to be fine.
You will need to explain this one. It sounds like something REALLY cheesy or had some dumb gimmick.

He finds a way to poke at The Witcher games and put it in a negative light somehow in every interview. But then you also get hordes of people who come out and say "he's just an old man, he doesn't play videogames" "it's his humour". I'm starting to find pretty hard to defend some near-insulting things he says about the games. Even the Metro books author came out on how arrogant he is.
It's kind of true. He's a bit of an asshole, but he has stated on numerous occasions that he doesn't actually hate video games.

o kurwa...

It simply comes off as a low-budget, awkward fantasy production. Felt a bit like something between an old SyFy original movie and a LARP.

The game is wonderful, but there is definitely a bit of relationship and family building left behind. The way Ciri is brought up by Yennefer , Geralt and Triss is quite sweet.
quotation
yeah, that's exactly how it is lol. To Geralt, Ciri is his daughter. He treats her as such, he'd do literally anything for her, and Ciri looks to Geralt like a father and Yennefer (reluctantly at first) as a mother. Geralt and Yennefer are certainly an interesting pair, and the the short story collection "The Last Wish" (which is also the book everyone should start off with if they're interested in reading the series) delves into their relationship. They're definitely a strange family, but a family none the less.

I said, 'No, there will be no profit at all—give me all my money right now! The whole amount.'
Direct quote from the author.
Can't wait for an entire episode dedicated to Gwent.
Playing through the game now, is it even worth learning how to play gwent?
Can't wait for an entire episode dedicated to Gwent.
What's funny is just how lore-breaking Gwent really is. Like, in "Baptism of Fire" there's a card game brought up by a group of Dwarves (and a Gnome) called "Barrel" (Which is what ended up inspiring Gwent, so its not like they pulled it out of left field). The book then delves into the fact that card games are not popular with the human populations (who much prefer cheaper dice) in part because they lack the artistry to make good looking cards (and humans who did gamble with cards didn't really care about how they looked). To quote
Human card players, whom The Witcher had had several opportunities to observe, always played with greasy cards, so dirty that before the cards were placed on the table they had to be laboriously peeled away from the fingers. The count cards were painted so carelessly that distinguishing the lady from the knave was only possible because the knave was mounted on a horse. Which actually looked more like a crippled weasel.
Yet somehow a collectible card game took the world of the Witcher by storm :v:. Still love Gwent though, it's a lot of fun.
Playing through the game now, is it even worth learning how to play gwent?
The game itself is fun and you can actually get quite a few major side quests involving it.
Playing through the game now, is it even worth learning how to play gwent?
yes and the gwent standalone game is a lot of fun too, though I don't know if you can still get into the beta.
-snip i was ninjad-
Playing through the game now, is it even worth learning how to play gwent?
Gwent is extremely fun, it's definitely worth it. It's that fun that they have made a Gwent digital online card game from it.
Playing through the game now, is it even worth learning how to play gwent?
Fuck yes its an amazing minigame and it gets hella addictive.
Playing through the game now, is it even worth learning how to play gwent?
Gwent is absolutely something you should play. It's pretty simple so it shouldn't take too long to get the hang of it.
My side quest log is full of uncompleted gwent quests. I'll give it a try!
