[UK] Brexit strategy 'in paralysis' as EU withdrawal bill delayed (again)
27 replies, posted
The government has been forced to delay bringing the EU withdrawal bill back to the House of Commons for a second time, as it struggles to respond to hundreds of hostile amendments, Labour sources expect.
Pro-EU backbenchers, convened by the all-party parliamentary group on European relations, chaired by Labour’s Chuka Ummuna and the Conservative Anna Soubry, have also cooperated to lay down scores of other amendments, more than a dozen of which have enough Conservative signatures to potentially threaten Theresa May’s majority.
The withdrawal bill, which May announced as the “great repeal bill”, at last year’s Conservative party conference, is a key piece of legislation laying the groundwork for Brexit, by bringing EU legislation into UK law, and repealing the European Communities Act.

Strong and stable lads.
What a fucking car crash of a government

Cars have seatbelts and crumple zones, this is more like a trainwreck.
I'm proud of the opposition parties and Cameronites for this. They're committing an act of superlative political manoeuvring: Drowning a bill in amendments that must be addressed, thus making it impossible to pass in a satisfactory fashion, while appearing well-meaning to the Brexit supporting general public who particularly hold a knife to Labour's throats and Corbyn's future as Prime Minister. This is smart as fuck, proper statesmen.
When can we drag her into the street and eat her alive? Sunday is fine for me.
oh hey its like the obamacare repeal bill and more wrapped in one piece of legislation

Nah lets not kill her, that's too good for her.
Make her live in a council house in Croydon and work at a supermarket the rest of her life.
Looks like y'all are a bunch of no good REMOANERS this is all part of the plan we just need to #NODEAL and tell Jean Claude DRUNKER where to stick his facist EU regime. BREXIT TILL I DIE
So uh...is it time to rescind A50 and just keep on going as we were, y'know, back when we were oh how does she put it...strong and stable?
People are already starting to feel the bite from this fucking asinine decision. Wage stagnation from austerity was pretty fucking bad, but now that the Pound is in a worse position than it has been for a while that stagnation is being compounded with a brand new stagnation born from uncertainty. Prices are starting to rise, inflation is creeping up whilst savings are totally stagnant. I'm pretty sure the only people in the country that have a stable income that has the possibility of seeing growth are the Tories themselves and private landlords who are pretty much all vultures.
The only people I can think of that still think Brexit is a good idea are rampant nationalist imbeciles, old people who wont suffer from this as their pensions are already secure, and those who actually do have a chance to benefit from the leave result (not entirely sure who fits this category mind). Even the pissing BBC Have Your Say comments have taken a sudden shift recently from a shitload of pro-leave posters complaining about "the youth" loving the EU and bigoted dickheads ranting about migrants, to a lot of remain voters actually standing their ground and using facts to beat the horribly spelled Leave voter lies back.

This is more like the Titanic "it can't sink guys, honest".
Please end it. As pro- "52% voted for it!!" I may be, this is getting ridiculous and I can't see Brexit going well.
The EU can't agree with the Government on anything. The Government can't agree with its own representatives and Judiciary on anything. The Government can't agree with the Government on anything. I'd say we're well past time.
Just fucking do it or don't I'm sick of this blueballing.
whatever happened to TM's "Brexit means brexit and we'll make a success of it" chant? Has she realised that no matter what she does, it's going to be a complete and utter shitshow?
This Government seriously needs to take it's finger out and accept that we're not getting all the benefits without the obligations. If an agreement isn't made by the end of this year, I suspect that negotiations won't just hit deadlock; they'll collapse completely, and the markets will only react negatively.
A No Deal scenario should be avoided at all costs.

she probably does because she's not retarded like donald trump but that doesn't mean she won't lie her ass off and use every extreme measure to deliver to her constituency like mitch mcconnell over here.

Britain is stuck between a rock and a hard place.
If the government rescinds A50 it's very likely the EU will forcefully remove all special rights that Britain has and most likely completely remove it's status as a nation of power and influence, and if they try pushing through they'll find themselves indefinitely delaying negotiations until the EU forcefully collapses negotiations an throws the UK out with no deal or any concrete relations, which will basically make the country implode.

So they pulled the pin out of the handgrenade but got nowhere to throw it?
Nice, let this be a example of how asinine and retarded blind nationalism is.

Honestly the UK was pretty asinine in the first place. They had one of the strongest positions in Europe from the get go, but this was essentially self eroded as they refused to cooperate with everyone and anyone.
That's kinda the common story with the UK more often than not. They love the idea of a unified Europe, without the involvement of the UK as they believe it will make business easier.
Then are surprised when that unified Europe acts unified.
"prepare for no deal", says government minister whose only job is to make a deal.
Lib Dems are still the only major party pushing for a second referendum. time to take up that offer I think
I still don't understand why you didn't require a supermajority.
I still don't understand why you didn't require a supermajority.
It really shouldn't have mattered because the referendum was non-binding to begin with.
The way the government should have acted was "Hey, here's what the population thinks, let's take it into consideration while doing our job." and not "Hey, here's what the population thinks, let's just straight give them what they want regardless of any consequences." but the government was too scared to lose their votes over doing their fucking job.
A population doesn't elect a government so that the government then just offloads their job back onto the population. A government isn't serving the people by letting the people fuck themselves up and then going "hey it's what you wanted have fun with that".

And because, let's be quite fucking honest here, the general populace are idiots. This is why we have representatives, because they actually know (most of the time anyway) what they're doing and what they're talking about. As Brexit handily showed, there were many (too many) British folk who didn't even know what the god damn EU was, then voted Leave anyhow. Only to regret that decision a week later.
[editline]20th October 2017[/editline]
And when I say the general populace are idiots, this isn't exclusive to the UK. The Danish are idiots, the Americans are idiots. What we really need is for politicians to start explaining what they're doing in a much simpler fashion. Quite frankly, they should act like they're speaking to a group of third-graders, because then people might finally understand what the fuck is going on.

even if 70% voted for it and voter turnout was 100%, an objectively retarded decision is still an objectively retarded decision and shouldn't be carried out.
Consider the brexit referendum as an idiot cull, an indication of how fucked the educational system in the UK is, among other things.

How's education works into it? Most of the pro Brexit are old people amd dumb nazis.

They saw through our finely crafted ruse.

Were education about international relations good in ye olde tyme?
They saw through our finely crafted ruse.
Sounds like wishful thinking, to be honest. He doesn't realise (or doesn't want to believe) that a good portion of our government is actually pants-on-head retarded enough to welcome a No Deal situation, despite that being an absolute travesty. Brexit is just a sliding scale of catastrophe, there is no good outcome, but No Deal is the worst outcome.
