Adobe on Tuesday patched seven vulnerabilities in Flash Player, six that could lead to code execution. The company said it isn’t aware of any of the vulnerabilities being exploited in the wild but is still encouraging users to update Flash for Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Chrome OS.
The vulnerabilities exist in versions 24.0.0.221 and earlier of Flash, according to a security bulletin issued by the company Tuesday morning.
Adobe is warning the six bugs–a buffer overflow vulnerability, two memory corruption vulnerabilities, and a trio of use-after-free vulnerabilities–could be exploited to trigger code execution. The lone bug that doesn’t lead to code execution stems from a random number generator vulnerability. That vulnerability, dug up by two researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, Wang Chenyu, and Wu Hongjun, could lead to information disclosure if exploited
If you still use Flash, you probably want to update it.
I dunno why but it reminds me of back in the very early days of iOS (before it was even called that) - such as iPhone OS 2 in 2009, before HTML5 was a thing and when a lot of content on the web was still Flash-based; it was the worst thing ever because Flash wasn't (and still isn't) supported. How times have changed.
Sorry but flash is so horrible that people need to start moving on from it.
But strangely I'm still rather nostalgic about that period from 2007-10, especially the video games.
Flash games were awesome. I was horrified to find out teagames.com has closed, I was trying to show an old flash game to a friend.

On the other hand, Flash has been around for more than 2 decades now, and Adobe are still finding ACE exploits in groups of six :why:

people started moving on from it like 6 years ago
this is just for the few things that still use it

And people thought Jobs was a moron to go against Flash support, and that he was wrong about it's death in a close future.
Well, it was dumb of Apple to remove flash support back when flash was still widely used and there was no real replacement.
If they'd remove it now no one would really complain.
Yeah, how dare they not use a bloated and unsecure format on their boutique phone, rather than making their own that they have full control over and wouldn't have to consider a million different variables for supporting a single dying format. If anything, I'm glad apple turned away flash because that led to html5 being so much better

Every single update to flash has made performance for me worse. I've been using Firefox since it was Firebird, and I remember something like Brackenwood series running butter smooth on my old computer, while running worse and worse with each update on a much more powerful machine.
To be fair, flash animations nowadays run fine, but flash videos still run pretty horribly. At some point I was basically forced to switch to HTML5. It can't even compare performance wise. Though to be fair I did start watching higher resolution video as time went by so it's probably also related to that.
keep in mind flash is still widely used for the development of mobile apps (mostly games, using stuff like starling framework and/or feathers UI etc) under the AIR runtime.
hell iirc there were flash games on steam that were packaged with the runtime, eg. machinarium etc.
flash isn't the "all-evil" that people make it out to be. sure, the web implementation of it is shoddy at best, but as an engine it's massively used still due to how easy it is to code in AS3, the amount of support that it got over the years and for anything non-vector it does an excelent job performance-wise.

In the long run, it really wasn't. Adobe was always a shitty partner, and Flash was always a security/performance nightmare. Apple wanted to futureproof their OS, and succeeded.

I don't even have flash installed anymore, and I rarely come across sites still using it.

Apple aren't really about waiting around, they'll force out market standards if it suits their interests.

I don't think Flash was originally designed to display videos, it was shoehorned in as an easy cross-platform method of displaying videos online. It worked decently with low quality videos, basically what YouTube had years and years ago, but coming up to 720p and past that, Flash will just crumble.
God help us all if you try to run a 4K video in Flash.

Not really. Even back then Flash was pretty insecure, so having someone who has quite a big reach to disown it was a good thing.

Is it Chrome or Chromium you use? If you use Chrome you do have Flash, just Google's version
It baffles me how even now this program has so many large-scale flaws so frequently. It's insane that this program has enough power where, when exploited, can do irreparable damage.

You could run 720p normally. I remember some flash games being in 720p, you needed a decent computer to run it but they looked really good. Anything higher and flash would of broke

Some of my homework sites still use flash and it fucking sucks
Gotta switch from safari to chrome

Chromium
Flash depresses me because education uses it a lot. Cunts like pearson have no incentive or reason to care and improve their website by rewriting in something other than flash.
Even back in its heyday if you did your entire website in flash you were doing something horribly wrong

Could be worse. You could have a website in which all homework assignments have to be run using Java implemented in the browser.
I have to.

If your only computer at home was an iPad (which it well could be these days) then there's an incentive. Schools can't expect people to necessarily have Windows/Mac computers at home, when some people may only need a tablet. Plus you can generally do school work on a tablet because there are office suites available for both Android and iOS

Not to you, but I'm sure the removal of it forced people's hands into buying that shitty splitter/converter or their stupid bluetooth headphones, raising profits.
