Good morning Facepunch. Currently, IM FREAKING THE FUCK OUT. It's my first surgery and I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled. They are gonna put me under the needle. I hate the needle. Any advice?
don't eat or drink anything before you go under.
when you're under you can't control your bowel movements, and people shit themselves all the time because of this.
Are they actually being pulled or do they have to cut them out?

Um, they do local anesthetic for this sort of thing, you know.
Don't shit yourself over some teeth.
Are you going to be put under local or general anesthesia? Either way, you shouldn't freak out, just relax. I used to be afraid of needles, turns out they hurt more if you freak out. Just close your eyes, relax, and you won't feel a thing.
Once you're under you won't feel a thing. Worrying now will only make things worse.
Trust me, I had awake craniotomy, you feel nothing.
I sitting in the office right now

Are you at the dentist or at a hospital in the oral surgery department?
If it's the former, relax. If it's the latter, it's not as wholesome as the former but still pretty doable.
You'll be fine, if it's a normal easy pulling then it'll be a little bit achy for a couple of days afterwards before returning to normal quite fast.
It's not so bad man, I had mine sliced out a year or so ago and all you need to do is relax.
when I had four teeth out when I was 16 to prepare for my braces, I took a pair of tweezers with me, when they're injecting you just pinch your leg with the tweezers pretty hard and it'll take your mind off the needle.
but if you're already there then good luck pal! you'll be fine :)
yeah, its not so bad
the only real sucky bit is the wait, both during the surgery and the numbness wearing off after it
dont lick the gums after its done either!

A couple of days? Try 2 at most. Those heal pretty fast.
You're doing good, doing the root canal is far worse than pulling some teeth out of your head.
My wisdom tooth cracked into 3 pieces while the dentist was drilling it, didn't hurt at all. All she said was "Oh shit" right before the drill could reach into my gum.
Then i had to walk all day with a cotton circular thingy in the hole my tooth was to stop the bleeding.
Like most people said it's not so bad as you might think but it's not exactly pleasant either. After the first stings from anesthesia you really won't feel any pain during the surgery. You can feel some pain from the area after the surgery but I was chewing painkillers for the first 2-3 days and it wasn't a huge issue. I could eat normal food after 24h.
I've had all my wisdom teeth pulled.
I didn't really mind the needles, but the sound of the drill/saw they used on one of the teeth was pretty nasty.
Sounded like a giant mosquito inside my head.
Have fun OP!
I feel so bad for all of you.
I managed to get lucky and have room in my mouth for all 4 of my wisdom teeth.
But yeah, good luck OP, it isn't as bad as people make it out to be I hear.
Trust me, I've heard some great stories of people doing crazy and funny shit when under the drugs from getting their wisdom teeth pulled.
Ins back and I'm high as fuck right now

To make you feel better, here's a little story.
My brother and I had our wisdom teeth removed consecutively (surgically, since all of them were badly impacted). We woke up at the same time in the same room and the anesthetic they used affected our bowels. We hadn't eaten for two days before so we didn't shit ourselves, but...
We were stuck in a small room together with no windows, we were both very swollen and in a lot of pain and we were both farting uncontrollably.

Mine took three weeks to heal. I was still spitting out stitches a month later.

Now comes the bad part. You're going to look soon like a fucking hamster and most things will hurt like shit.
Do not laugh or smile, it will hurt and in the worst case, your wounds are opening up again.
don't worry, when the drill hits your jaw bone and theres a smoke coming out of your mouth with blood splattering everywhere violently, only a few more minutes left

Enjoy it while it lasts. Once the effect of the anesthetic fades you will feel a pain that will make you wish you were never born.

If you're still spitting out stitches a month later, I'm more inclined to think something went wrong.
Good luck. Try and enjoy soft foods even though it's hard to when your mouth hurts.
Thanks guys. I'm no longer tripping balls but now I feel pain. I took painkillers so its not too bad. On the plus side, I'm getting a ps vita!

Oh yeah. I also have dissolving stitches
I never understood the point of getting your wisdom tooth pulled
I never understood the point of getting your wisdom tooth pulled
A lot of the time they'll get impacted and cause pain you can't even imagine. Even if they're not impacted, they take up too much space in your mouth to the point where they begin to push your teeth forward and cram them together. That's beginning to happen to me. Basically, they'll fuck up your teeth and you really just don't need them.
[editline]5th July 2013[/editline]
Sometimes they don't do anything to people and some never get them removed, but if you can do it, just do it.

you're about to feel true pain
I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled 6 months ago due to them coming in completely sideways. It's really simple OP, it's not a big deal at all. I went into the room, they did some basic tests for me such as heartrate and shit by putting sensors on me. The surgeon came in and put a needle in my arm, talked to me about some random shit for 3 seconds and I was out. Woke up and it was all done. But lemme tell you, you'll be in a haze for the next hour. The nurse woke me up and told me it was all done and I was ready to go, I just turned my head and went back to sleep in the chair. lol

And I guess you already had them pulled, but the aftermath isn't too bad either. Aside from not being able to eat proper food for a long while, it was pretty doable. I had a swollen face for about 1-2 weeks though, and it made it really difficult to chew when I was supposed to. Supposedly after a week I was supposed to be able to chew things lightly with the pain permitting, but my face was so swollen most of the time that I couldn't close my teeth completely anyway. I also tended to bite the side of my cheek in the middle of the night so a part of my cheek was caught in between my teeth for most of the time I was swollen. I had to put a piece of paper towel in between my cheek and my teeth to keep myself from biting it in the middle of the night. The pain really wasn't bad at all. I took 600mg of Ibuprofen once every 6 hours and I was cool as a cat. Only time I felt pain was when I woke up in the morning.
