Re-posting it as it wasn't fit for GD.
I'm not a grammar nazi, but Jesus Christ.
I'm 16 going on 17 and I have been looking through my facebook lately. It seems that almost all of the people in the News Feed have made atrocious spelling mistakes, I mean it's not just grammar like "your" and "you're" mix-ups, it's saying "majority" as "margate" or the king of spelling errors in a friend of mine's "favorite quotes" section:
"life has mor cervs thin a bucit ful of ratolsnaks"
He is 19 years old.
I'm just wondering if it's common or not. Spelling mistakes like this were not that common when I was 13, so what the fuck happened?
Anyone else see this?

Because he's a lazy idiot that can't be assed to spell everything correctly.

Also itt: If I spell things wrong maybe I'll get funnies and agrees.
has nothing to do with age, adults do it too.
The wonders of a spell checker.
I really don't see why holding something as meaningless as a person's spelling errors against them empowers certain individuals.
In my eyes, It'll always be just a petty, mindless excuse for some people to be able to bear needless judgement over others where it isn't due.
It's nothing to do with their age. I know plenty of adults who are just as shitty at spelling as teens.
Also I find it a bit pointless to complain about spelling, it really has no affect on your ability to understand them for the most part.
Because texting is long and takes time, therefore short versions of words saves time and effort, this starts to transfer to real life etc.

I can understand shortened words in texting what with the small keyboard, but if you can't type even properly spelled words on an averaged sized keyboard then you either have huge hands or are as lazy as shit
Somebody in my first year or junior high spelled his name wrong once.
The spell check on their phones are broken.
It's hip to be dumb. Smart, sane people are usually called geeks or nerds.
Society :allears:
Stupid people exist everywhere, but is it worse that they're stupid or that you're Facebook friends with them?

which brings up a good point
A lot of the time when kids use Facebook these days they do it from their phones, so they may very well be typing from a tiny keyboard.
How about who cares and worry about something more important in your life?

None of my friends seem to have trouble using spelling, capitalization, and punctuation from their phones.

Maybe if you have a T9 keypad or something, though I don't use short-forms or tear apart words in my text messages.
I strive to use grammar all the time, even on my iPod, like I am now.

Sometimes, I think they go out of their way to spell things wrong.
I convinced one of my friends to type and text in complete sentences

deal
I hate people who think their spelling doesn't reflect their intelligence.
What's Up With People Capitalizing Every Word, Op? Seriously?
What's Up With People Capitalizing Every Word, Op? Seriously?
proper nouns duh
although I do find it annoying when people capitalize every single word in their sentence
It could also be because they are drunk or high.
People don't need to be formal all the time on the internet.
Most people that spell terribly on the internet are perfectly fine when it comes to writing out essays or other professional work.
You sound like some kid that has the typical "lol I'm better then my age group" attitude.
