I'm new as a member to Facepunch, but I've been observing it for a while. As a hobbyist game developer and 3D artist, I joined because I'm a huge fan of the Source Engine and the games made with it and was thinking of adopting it as my engine of choice for a certain project. But I'm not sure if this is the place for me. It kinda scares me, I see people getting banned and flamed left and right, and I don't know if this community is worth getting into. (I'm actually afraid of getting banned for this post) I'm wondering, are the rumors about this place true? And the bans, where the people banned really rule-breakers? I see lots of semi-harmless stuff getting people banned...
Use common sense. That's the #1 rule when posting. Also, just because something isn't stated in the rules doesn't mean you won't get banned for it.
As far as getting a team together for your project, you would have to show some work off that shows you really mean it, and then you would probably post in the Valve/Source Games section of the forum.
Don't feel off-put about bans. Bans are essentially warnings. If you keep doing the same thing wrong over and over again, your ban will become longer and sooner or later you'll get perma-banned.
You actually have to try or legitimately break a rule to get banned here. The bans are mostly for about a day or two, depending on the circumstances + if you are a repeat offender.
Just read the OP in the "Ask us anything about the forums" thread in "General Discussion."
And on FP...anything goes.
Also, welcome to Facepunch. Enjoy your stay.
We here have our guidelines. We ban for things we find annoying or wrong (Or y'know...whatever's on the list). Bans are the least of your worries here if you're a sane person who can type correctly, keep a cool head, and not do stupid things. Flaming is bannable here, so that's not something to worry about here either.
But whether you're here to stay or passing through on your way to parts unknown...welcome, to Facepunch.
It's safer here.
Maybe a pinch of facepunch bans are not really well deserved, but most of the time they get resolved.
All other bans are basically fair game.
But see, "sane" is very subjective. And people have opinions. And those people become admins. It doesn't seem very concrete and kind of unstable, you know...?
I've heard everything from getting banned for trying to help someone to disagreeing with a mod.
It's kind of intimidating to know my opinions and simple misunderstandings can get me banned.
It doesn't seem very mature or professional. That's why I feel I'm in the wrong place...
Depends on the admin. Usually Garry or someone else takes notice of abuse though and they get canned.
Opinions are allowed here and are welcomed as long as it's not in the form of "fuk erryone dis suks a big dong dong, u r gay fagots nevr post agin".

People here are hard headed idiots and asshats to each other from time to time but most of us don't really hate each other it's just how we communicate, we are brash and not very soft, just like a lot of places around the internet. Just don't be an idiot or an easily butthurt pussy and you will be fine.
Also yeah bans are common place from time to time, sometimes you get the unlucky end of the draw if you make a stupid post. Most bans only last a few days to a week though, so it's not a big deal unless you are trying to get banned or are just a massive retard and don't belong here. Just be cool and you won't get banned (mostly). Don't get really upset about being banned either because it happens to almost everybody at least once. Some mods are cool, some mods can be more strict or butthurt (not gonna name names).
You might notice some larger threads are monitored by a certain mod and the etiquette would change because of that. If you see traces of a mod names "MaxofS2D", don't talk about anything NSFW at all. If you see Starpluck or Gunfox, don't post (The sentence ends there, I mean it, don't post). If you see Craptasket, don't be sarcastic.
The nicer mods are Orkel and GranPC, they'll be chill as long as you don't push it.
FP is like that one alleyway no one goes down, but you go down it anyway. After going down it so many times, it's actually a habit, a habit you can't quit no matter how bad it is.
Oh, don't talk about MLP.
Discussion of that show never ends well.
Don't worry too much, and just read the rules of each section. Don't go off and randomly flame or post meme replies and you will be fine pretty much all of the time.
OK, kewl. I can work with that. Chances are I'll probably only post with questions related to Source or Source Film Maker.
Or answer questions. I generally don't spend a lot of time on forums these days.
Actually 99% of bans are done for a reason, even if they have a reason like "creep".
What other people said.
And people have opinions.
Admins can't really ban you because of your opinions, it's how you express them. (As UntouchedShadow already said)
"I think Garry is stupid sometimes because he seems to put wrong peoples as mods"
or
"gArey isS a fAgeT!" (Also Cp (Obviously), memes, mlp and that cat are no-no unless you want to kill yourself)
Also don't make erotic novels about you and Autumn, we saw how that went. Also, just live and learn. A day ban isn't that bad and you learn as long as you live. Just don't screw yourself and get permaed.
