All I need is the ability to crop and resize a gif, and for it not to be lossy. I been googling this shit but a lot of sketchy-looking software comes up, probably brimming with adware.
Or if nobody can recommend a good free program, could I send a larger version of my avatar to someone and have it cropped?
Post it in that GD thread, a few people have gotton their avatars fixed in there I think
If all else fails, throw it up in the Avatar Request thread
If you can describe what you want/give a picture for them to edit, this thread should be all you need.

Use Gimp.
You can edit a gif by opening it. Displays frames by layers and when saving you can select "AS ANIMATION"

Yeah that's probably the best idea, but if anyone still has a program they could post, I'm sure I would use it in the future.

I will try gimp but it's going to feel so weird using the free alternative to Photoshop since I already have Photoshop.
If you're desperate you could use Gimp, but it really does a bad job at maintaining quality when resizing so if you want quality you'd probably be better off asking someone else to do it or get Photoshop or something.

Wait I already have Photoshop (CS4) but I didn't think it could edit animated gifs. Is that only on newer versions?
Photoscape is good for editing gifs and it's free.
edit every frame in ms paint

You can in CS4. Open the gif in Photoshop, and if you need/want to, change the workspace to Animation so you can view the frames.

I own multiple versions of Photoshop myself and I keep getting forced to use Gimp because Adobe is missing weird features like GIF editing.
