My background is a picture of Laika, the first dog and life form to go to outer space besides microorganisms. Scientists picked stray dogs from Moscow because they believed that the strays would be more used to enduring hardships. She was trained to stand in small, confined spaces for long periods of time. Her diet consisted of some sort of nutrient rich jelly.

It isn't exactly known how she died in space. Some theories are that the oxygen supply failed or that she overheated. The scientists who worked with her say that they regret sending her into outer space.
