Which free-to-play Dota clone should I vest my time in? League of Legends is more widespread, but I've heard bad things about its community. Heroes of Newerth has gold coins for real money and stuff like that, but it seems like a more solid game. I haven't played either, and I can't really decide. What does FP think?
League of Legends is doing better. Heroes of Newerth is pretty close to DoTA.

League Of Legends. Everyone trolls and get's pissed easily but the content is better by far.

League, or at least until you grasp the basics. I have at least 800 games on League and still don't understand what is going on durring HoN.

LoL and HoN are completely different mobas
Hon is more hardcore. Lol is more casual.

How does everyone find LoL easy? Even on co-op I get fucking slaughtered.

The interface and gameplay is just a lot more beginner friendly.
HoN is slower gameplay, and it takes longer to acutally finish a game, whilst i feel LoL is more like "get the best items first and your team wins" Whilst in HoN, its more about what characters work better together.
This Argument can go on all day. it reminds me of XBOX OR PS3.
At the end of the day its what you want to play
If you want to play a game that is like DotA then play HoN or wait for Dota2
If you want to play something different to Dota then play LoL.
I personally play LoL (because HoN doesnt work for me ¬¬)
