How do i make background invisible for Avatar on FP?

what does square-y mean? I'm a noob when it comes to photoshop, and please don't tell me that to make the background transparent and it works. It doesn't work for me I have no idea why... saving in .png or .gif won't work either. Please help

Thread needs to be rid of the capital a in Avatar and be replaced aforely with an 'an' otherwise it seems like you're talking about the movie.

Square-y means

"squarey", adding y is a figure of speech. He means does the background contain lots of squares. As above.

I had to resize my avatar to 64x64 to get the transparency to show, so try that if you deleted the background but it still won't work.
