It helps filter out memes that have become overused to shit and too mainstream (like Cash me ousside, Sparta or rage comics).

One day my future grandkid will interview me about this kinda stuff for a project in Social History class.
Unfunny memes have souls.
I'm personally in favour of vintage memes. The old, handcrafted ones that weren't a dime a dozen on memegenerator.net.
Anyone who uses the term normie unironically is a normie themselves since that word's been used all the time.

Anyone who breathes air is a fucking normie. Air is so overplayed, people have been doing it for millions of years.
stick with LazyTown memes and you'll be fine
I kinda prefer the days when memes weren't something in the mainstream consciousness, since once it became a marketable thing you've got every corporate jerkoff and talentless twat wanting to be famous on the Internet trying to force their own memes.
That being said, it'd be silly to say good memes don't get made anymore, hell it's likely more good memes on average get made just on account of sheer volume of attempts.

I remember when shoop da whoop was a thing. This was the classical meme period, up there with keyboard cat and other ancient memes.
Then the troll face apocalypse hit and a new era of memes rose from the ashes. Now we're in the neo-meme period with weird, abstract recreations of memes and bizarrely portrayed nihilistic humor.

We should just exterminate every meme in order to improve the human race.
The word meme has devolved so much, I remember when the memes were real y'know?
My favourite memes are holocaust+mlp mashups. Never have I felt true cringe before I saw them.
