I was thinking about buying a new 4X strategy game to play by myself/with some friends. We've been playing Civ V for a while but something newer might be cool. In particular, I was looking at Endless Legend and Age of Wonders III. Anyone have any experience with those/other titles and let me know some pros and cons?
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is pretty sweet.
Haven't tried AoW3, but Endless Legend's great at being a high fantasy game where everyone's Game of Thrones-levels of aggressive. It can be a little intimidating at first and the combat's a little obtuse, but the lore's rich as all hell (part of the same universe as Dungeon of the Endless and Endless Space), the artstyle's amazing and the actual grand strategy layer's pretty varied.
If you're into space 4Xes though, I can't recommend Distant Worlds: Universe enough. It's simultaneously the most complex and in-depth 4X around and the easiest to grasp, since you can pick and choose what's automated, what's advised and what's 100% manual.
I've got a really good one burning in the back of my mind, but I can't quite put my finger on it at the moment. Have you tried Civ 4 with mods? Fall From Heaven 2 is a pretty fantastic one, but I'm not sure how well it performs with more than one player.
If you're okay with an RTS with 4X elements, Rise of Nations is a great choice.

I wouldn't really call Rise of Nations 4X, but you should still look into it because it's great.
