Basically, a school band which I am in is going over to France to play in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.
Problem is, I do not know a lick of French culture. :p
So, if you humble Facepunchers could help me out with adding small tidbits of information about French Culture, that would be really nice.
Thank you!
Your going over for the anniversary too?
Im probably going to be going there on the 6th of june, My parents really want to take me.
other then that, as a person from South East England, Northern france isnt really different, and the majority of places speak english anyway.
Go find MaxofS2d
Don't go to Lyon.

A friend of mine went to Northern France some years ago, and there were ALOT of communication-problems because many of the Frenchmen couldn't speak English. Perhaps learning some really basic lines in French could help?
the common greeting in france is putain de merde. make sure to raise your arms and make some kind of gesture.
What region of France are you going to? Last summer I spent my time in the Rhône-Alpes.

Paris and Normandy, mainly
Be yourself man, you'll be fine. Most of the French people seldom speak to people from abroad so you will eventually find curious people you can chat with and learn from them about our culture. And enjoy Normandy's cider and calvados you lucky bastard.
Oh yeah if you need any help I'll be around Paris at that time

Good point mate but actually only one of us needs to recognize the other one. So I guess I can bring a beret so I would be the only dude below 80 wearing one of those stupid hats

Well, probably. I'd be in perhaps a huge crowd of people wearing dark greens shirts with the Eiffel tower on the back. I'd probably be carrying a stick bag (I'm a percussionist) and talking with a guy with glasses.
