Watch a NASA rocket launch, live! A very interesting one as well! T-minus 30 minutes!

That's right :) . At the NASA facility in Wallops, Virginia, a 5-rocket launch will take place very shortly (the launch window opens at 2:00 AM, EDT. It is now 1:33, so it is T-MINUS 27 at the time of typing this.
You may watch live via http://www.ustream.tv/channel/nasa-wallops , or you can watch it outdoors if you live in the viewing range (provided here http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/627508main_ATREX_TrajectoryView-orig.jpg
The specific details of the launch mission objectives are pretty cool if you ask me. I encourage you all to read about it here http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/sunearth/missions/atrex-nightlight.html

High in the sky, 60 to 65 miles above Earth's surface, winds rush through a little understood region of Earth's atmosphere at speeds of 200 to 300 miles per hour. Lower than a typical satellite's orbit, higher than where most planes fly, this upper atmosphere jet stream makes a perfect target for a particular kind of scientific experiment: the sounding rocket. Some 35 to 40 feet long, sounding rockets shoot up into the sky for short journeys of eight to ten minutes, allowing scientists to probe difficult-to-reach layers of the atmosphere.)
I thought the US canceled the space program? I know this isn't going to space, but I would imagine a NASA rocket heading to the atmosphere has to do with the space program.

That was just the Shuttle Program.
That was just the Shuttle Program.
Ooooh, ok I didn't know that. Thanks
I thought the US canceled the space program?
Negative. The space program has not been canceled. The only notable changes as of late are the ongoing budget cuts to NASA, and the end of the Shuttle program in 2011. We are currently transporting astronauts via joint programs with other space agencies in other countries, particularly Russia.
PLEASE record it, please.
So watching dis shiz
Can't wait
The holder is tilting up.
Yes, the launchers are becoming erect in preparation for NASA to blow its load in the sky.

Oh you and your dirty mind.
[editline]27th March 2012[/editline]
But god damn, I could read an entire novel by the time this get's half way through it's prep.
Lots of stuff to do to ensure the rockets do their job. They are about to launch test rockets for testing radar echo, so we should see some fun stuff in a few minutes, followed by the main launch.
Now 15 minutes and counting!
Woo!!
rc check 201, LPM check, IHOP check, CNN check, etc
So how long till it launches?
And what am I even looking at in this stream? there's a bunch of white rectangles, but I can't really see what is the rocket
Now 15 minutes and counting!

Nevermind, apparently they didn't mean to say "counting" because it's still not launching yet.
The rockets are in said boxes to protect them from several things until they decide to begin the so called final countdown. It should occur shortly, due to wind conditions dying down and the other tests following through without less-than-optimal results.
T-minus 30 minutes!

Well shit
That was the time until the launch window opened, and now that the pre-launch checks are all going through smoothly, we should see the t-minus 15 minute mark resume shortly, which will be the countdown to the actual launch itself.

We?!
Are you an employee of NASA by chance?

No :| ... by me I mean the U.S.A. as opposed to other countries and their space initiatives.
Although on a side note, I was talking to someone at NASA about what internships they have, and I will be applying to Space-X this month or early next month to help out with audio related tasks for mission objectives.
Doesn't seem like they'll launch it any time soon, they're apparently out of test rockets and are experiencing other problems

They just said something along the lines of going straight to the main event because there will be a period where they can't do anything.
If I understood it right.
in a few minutes a weather balloon will be launched to test several things, and they are talking about skipping the test rockets and going right into the main launch. will be happening soon indeed.
Ship in the DANGA ZOWNE.
God fucking why.
Final checks? YES.
Final launch is now T-15 minutes.
Launch is at 087:08:04:00 (Time overlay on the camera)
Yes finally.
