That afterlife thing is horseshit and is looking way too deep in to it. It was just intended as the original anti-joke.
It took me forever to understand alot of humor in the old Spongebob Squarepants episodes, like when he shows Gary those bars of soap that he called "dubloons" and he said "Don't drop them!".
