Casting call presumably went down like this

-joke about MGS already being a movie-
I don't think hugh jackman would really fit the character much, in my opinion.
I don't know how well he would act the part, but he's certainly got the look.
what about david hayter? :( it's been his childhood (see: mid-career and mid-life) dream
He looks like Snake but yeah a film of Metal Gear Solid wouldn't be that good really.
Even the story in the game is really silly.
Kojima better not let fucking hollywood even touch his shit once.
video game movies are retarded, if they want to pull this off they should do it with a cgi movie or something
I thought they were looking for someone relatively unknown?

They are now.
Anyway, an MGS movie has some great potential to explain on some things, but it's gonna have to be perfect.
God please let David Hayter do Snake

[sp]He is Snake[/sp]
How can people not fathom that they might do a contained story with it instead of a retelling of the games? Honestly that's the most likely course of action.

Well I mean they're looking for a Snake role so it can't be THAT self-contained.
If they made David into that role...It probably wouldn't even be good, but I would just LOVE it.
Kojima also mentioned Tom Hardy when he was talking about casting for Snake.
We need someone like Christian Bale who will completely be the role, on and off camera for the next year and a half if we don't get David Hayter.

There is a lot of time in between games where we have very little to no information on what Snake was doing.
Kurt Russel for Solid Snake.
Christopher Walken as old snake
Jackman got the looks, but I wouldn't like seeing him as Snake because frankly all I think off when I see him is Wolverine. Like in The Prestige: Batman and Woverine dukes it out with illusions.

he's deffo too old now. and more importantly, it would create a weird tangent with Escape from NY/LA

Koijima is like executive producer for this right? and has a big hand in the casting, as well as making sure the script's ok? so, i guess it can't go too wrong.
my concern is how anything MGS will work without all the fourth wall stuff like "insert disc 2" and turning the console's calander forward until The End dies of age and all that stuff that makes MGS so good.
Well Escape from New York, and Los Angeles were the inspiration for MGS, and those are great.

To me, it's one of those things that you would want to see a movie about it, but only if it was dead-on 100% the same as the games.
Not only that, judging by how many franchises have suffered from terrible movies, I bet it would have a completely unrelated story and no metal gear whatsoever.
We all saw what happened to Resident Evil now didn't we?
So, please don't make this a movie.

He fought in the Gulf, not to mention his activities as a green beret. There's a shit ton we don't know about Snake and Portable Ops proved that even characters like Big Boss can have stories to tell before he became a legend (referring to python and his time in Vietnam). As long as the writing hits the right mix that MGS has, I don't think it's that big a problem if it's set during a time that hasn't been covered.
This Metal Gear movie better be good. Kojima doesn't write nor cast, but it seems he still has a say. I suggest they cut elements from the first 2d games, plus some elements from the playstation game, add a few standard action movie stuff and it should look quite fine. Don't even attempt to adapt the whole thing.
