Please help me out in a quick anonymous survey I'm doing. Not to offend or discriminate anyone but this survey is focused only toward those who consider themselves Black/African American. If this applies to you and you wish to take part, then by all means, please send your answers to all three questions through a PM to me or if you wish you may post on this thread. The information should be anonymous and will only be used to write a short report for an assignment.
QUESTIONS:

Q1: Do you prefer to be called/known as a Black, African American or something different?

If you prefer something else, please specify the name.

Q2: Why do you prefer to be called this instead of the others?

Q3: In what ways do you think these labels (Black or African American) are different from each other?
Thank you!
Also, If you would like to answer the questions then please answer all three of them. Just answering "black" does not give enough input or reasonable information for me to use.
Just a quick question; you realise that this political correctness around the descriptor "Black" doesn't exist elsewhere in the world? No one says "African English" or "African French".
Also no one says "Caucasian American" either. So what's the fucking point?
I know you're not specifically looking for my opinion for this poll since I'm not black, but I'm just trying to broaden your horizons a little.
I have heard Anglo-American before.
I call them "my fine ethnic friends"
Black.

Yeah I defiantly realize that. What I'm trying to find out thought is what blacks, specifically in America, label themselves as and why. I agree with you though.
You know there IS a poll option...
1. Black
2. I don't really give a shit and black's easier to say
3. It shows how much you care about being politically correct
just call them nigger
(User was permabanned for this post ("Gimmick" - Pascall))
1. I don't really care, but I lean towards Black.
2. I technically AM Ethiopian-American, but yeah
3. In my neighborhood, Black basically means that you can't trace their history before slavery, while African-American kind of means you have discernible roots.
Probably not the best place for this survey, there's like, 20 black people on all of Facepunch.

The third option
The third option
I don't believe there is a third option.

Coloreds?
Coloreds?
Okay, so would it be good if I added more option instead of only Black or African American or just an "other" option? Are you saying there should be more than just two options for the answer?

I didn't actually mean that but okay, an other option never hurts
well most black people does not come from and live in america so they would most likely be confused by being called by african americans
African Americans is far too formal. Whenever someone says it, it just feels like their trying to hard to be not racist.
Black is fine.
I call them "blackmen". I always say like "Hey, blackman, how is it going?"
I'm black, and I don't care.
People.

Everyone black person I know prefers being called black.
I'm black, and I don't care.
Hey, blackman, how is it going?
Hey, blackman, how is it going?
He said he doesn't care.. you know like, you should just say "hey man, how is it going?" not directly pointing out the obvious that he is a black man.. that's just stupid
Hey, blackman, how is it going?
I'm doing great, you?
my black friend said that he's black and that's good enough for me
Don't understand why calling them niggers is worth a permaban, I've got several "black" friends who call themself niggers and they dont mind when other people call them that.
I usually say the bad name for them but in Swedish, "neger"
[sp]Niqqer=Neger[/sp] but neger is not a bad word in Sweden, some find it offensive, some doesnt. :v:
Theres even a pastry called "negerbollar" wich is small round balls made of chocolate, butter, oats and coconut / sugar.
Good to know huh
