This is the first time I'm hearing about base building.
The new DayZ is going to be great fun in my group of friends.

It has been mentioned many times in the past but it was said that it was going to be something later on in development.
To some metrics, EVE is the most successful game ever made - rising subscriber counts from day 1 for 10 years (except for that Incarna fuckup).

thats the only time a mod like DayZ is fun
really? when I played with my friends, I found it destroyed all the tension between player interaction because we no longer had to worry about the other player killing us since we simply outnumbered them. it just made everything easier since we could search buildings so much faster and as long as we had ammo, zombies weren't a threat.
at least when you're alone or there is only one or two of your friends with you, it's possible to be overrun and to be caught off guard, but when we had 9-10 of us, we really didn't feel threatened by zombies or players.
we had a laugh and all, but it didn't feel like DayZ, there wasn't enough immersion.
What's the status of DayZ at this point? Last time I played it was in a pretty sketchy hotfix-a-day beta phase and strictly a mod for ArmA 2. If I want to play it now in its current incarnation, do I just download the latest mod for ArmA or have they transitioned towards the standalone model?

Current incarnation is still a mod. He's working on the full-blown standalone version

Remember all games fit specific genres and once labeled as such cannot add anything beyond it!!
You're dumb

You must be pretty tardy to the party.
DayZ stopped being a survival horror zombie game a long time ago.
Makes sense. EVE over a decade old now, and just about every single feature/mission/aspect of the game has been done to death; yet people still play it.
