Eeeeyy, I wanna try something new but don't want to spend any cash, what are some of the best/your fav FTP games on steam?
Path of Exile, Warframe
dota 2
Warframe has a pretty great FTP model since you can get virtual money from other players if you sell them the rare shit you find.
Wildstar is pretty fun, especially with friends. It's not on Steam, but Urban Terror is a pretty good shooter.
That's pretty much it ain't it?
Atlas Reactor's a lot of fun, but its free version is more of a demo than full fledged F2P.
Team Fortress is still fun, despite the hat-culture even if someone replys with "*SPITS OUT DRINK* WHAT IS THIS A JOKE" it wouldn't hurt to try it anyways.

For ARPGs, I've been digging in on Marvel Heroes a lot. Path of Exile is better (by a good amount), but if I want something more light on the elements then Marvel all day. Warframe has already been said, but I will say it again. Despite some mediocre business practices in some places and a hell of a grind pretty much everywhere, the core gameplay is so fun I hardly notice. Wildstar will always have a special place in my heart. The combat is a ton of fun (when there isn't lag or Framerate drops), the raids and dungeons are beautifully constructed, and the community is full of nice folks. It's just sorta low on players at this point and will probably die in the next year or so sadly. There are quite a few decent F2P games out there that I can't think of. I've played a million of them and I'll continue to play more going forward. Unless you have a datacap like I do, it doesn't hurt to try games out for a bit and see if you like it.
dota 2
Only with 4 friends who are resistent to frustration.
I really like Brawlhalla lately.
Something to keep in mind: if it's available outside of Steam, recently got on Steam via Greenlight and is having an in game event to celebrate such you should avoid it. As of recently a few long running games with reputations for being lousy have taken to bribing their existing community with the promise of in game events and stuff for up voting the game on Greenlight.
War Thunder?
Smite if you want to play a different jobs and Paladins if you want a good free Overwatch equivalent. Both game's f2p models are pretty fair.
Shadowverse Tera (although it's kind of low pop these days)
Planetside 2 had a big update to improve the new player experience, can't hurt to give it a shot.

Unturned. Don't let the graphics fool you, the game is actually pretty fun. More complete than DayZ.
