These types of things have existed forever for MMOs.
They are known as MMO Gamerpads.

From someone who bought one awhile back for some more buttons, don't buy them. They are fucking terrible, and you would be better off buying a mouse with multple button like the G400S or Razer Deathnadder.
See, this is nice and all (and by nice I mean ridiculously overpriced), but what's compatible with it and even if it is compatible, where does the advantage kick in when it comes to online games and what not? It seems kind of niche, and if I'm playing a driving game I wouldn't want to use a keyboard anyway because using "WASD" for controlling a car doesn't really make sense.
This would be cool for games like GTA and Mafia where the combat plays best with M+KB and the cars play best with a controller.

But then again that's fairly niche, wonder how this'll turn out.

Those are still digital, the Aimpad's gimmick is that it has analogue input

Does it really matter :v:
Most current gen consoles come with a usb port or two, and you can hook up stuff to them, sorta defeating the purposing of having it as analogue or not.

Well it does now, with this Aimpad thing. I agree, playing a racing game on a computer means you'll most likely play it with a steeringwheel or otherwise with a gamepad. Using a normal keyboard means you will only have two confirmations per button: Yes, it is pressed, or no, it isn't. This would help a lot because you can individually control how much the key is pressed and how that translate to the action. It's not a black and white thing anymore so it resembles a controller where you can push it all the way to the right but also slightly.
So yeah, this actually makes as much sense as a normal gamepad.
That being said, I'd love a reviewer test it.
Why not just buy a controller? They'd probably be cheaper than this and then just use that for games that play better with analogue movement.

I believe it's because they still want the precision of aiming with a mouse.I like this idea however is sounds like you'd have to be very delicate when playing with it.

This is the kinda idea I've been after for a long time, combining analog movement with mouse-controlled aiming. Even though MMO keypads don't have as many buttons as keyboards, they usually have around 20-25, which is probably enough for most bindings especially since you don't have to bind movement to the keys and in theory could free up a key used for Sprint if pushing the stick further enables faster movement like thumbsticks in most games, so you'd have about 5 keys freed up for other hotkeys.
You could probably use it for shooters although apparently some shooters work better with digital WASD if I've heard correctly from certain scenes, but in theory one of the better applications of this would be character-action games where you have a free camera, as well maybe games like Dark Souls.

Did you watch the video? Do you know what this is about?

I don't think you are grasping the concept, did you even read the article or did you just look at the picture? It means that when you press down the W key, instead of just being on or off like a normal keyboard, you can gradually change the forward velocity in the same was as an analogue stick or trigger on a controller.

[QUOTE=Lolkork;44449511]I've always wanted something like this, it would completely replace controllers for pc gaming (If it's fully supported by the devs) because it would give you the benefits of both control methods.[/QUOTE]
Most games are gamepad compatible, this would probably just use the same control scheme as them but map the different axis of the analogue stick to keys instead. I don't think developers would need to change much, if anything.
I've always thought it could be cool to have a keyboard with a switch that could turn on an analogue mode for when I wanted it, to be able to vary how hard I press keys for a ramping effect. In my opinion mechanical keyboards are a step towards this because the separate switches would probably be required, it wouldn't work with a membrane. If a variable switch keyboard was invented it would probably be ABSURDLY expensive at first though until the technology became standardized in some way.

I purchased mine about 5 years ago and am still using it today. Much more comfortable than a normal keyboard to use for prolonged periods and the analogue is a nice bonus.
Oh hey I've been wanting this for a while! :D
I even did a fancy jury rigged ps3 controller ontop of my keyboard once to test how it'd be in battlefield 3. Smooth movement was awesome as well as having all the keys still accessible, but the muscle memory just wasn't there.
Could be used in fps' for running/walking speeds, could be really cool in stealth games.
or jump height in something like N+
Could be useful for digital djing as well for effects and shit.

that's not called an MMO gamerpad though
it's just a gamepad :v: I seriously have no idea why you think that's for MMO's
I do wish the g13 was mechanical however. the fact that its Membrane MASSIVELY shits on the entire quality of the device, yet its still too useful.

Do you even know what analogue is?
I just want a thumbstick/trigger/bumper for movement while still using my mouse for aiming; Unfortunately, most games I've played with controller support are one or the other, disabling input from the unused device.
[editline]4th April 2014[/editline]
Or a mass produced trackball controller would work too.
I guess that's why I'm looking forward to the steam controller so much really.
[editline]4th April 2014[/editline]
I guess this thing isn't too bad of an idea after more reading, I'm was worried with the possibility of bad driver support, butthis pinnacle profiler they were talking about looks "alright"

Did any of you guys actually watch the entire video? I seriously doubt the two of you did.
