• '65 galaxy, tips on starting it?

Hi guys, my dad bought me a nice 1965 Ford Galaxy. It is not fuel injected, and is kind of difficult for me to start. I can start it fine, but do you have any tips on starting these kinds of cars?
FIRST: Make sure the battery connections are not corroded, and make sure the battery is good. If that's not the cast, replace the 16" or so length of the + and - cables, (should be about $10.00) then try it again, usually that is the problem for hard starts. Make double sure the battery is not old, and does hold a good 12v charge when the car is off. Also, while the car is running, make sure the volt meter goes up to ~14v. Also, lift the car up adn check underneath to make sure the starter doesn't look corroded or anything. It's about the size of two soda cans stacked on top of eachother, and it's usually way shinier than the rest of the engine block. It's usually underneath the alternator, or directly across from it. IF the starter is taking a long time to turn over, and it is carbuerated, then pop the hood, and remove the fuel rail or fuel lines, whichever the car has, and clean them out with a smoking pipe cleaner. Put them back on. If the problem still persists, unbolt the carb from the head of the engine, and clean out the butterflies and inlet ports, and make sure that nothing has been sucked into it. Put the carb back together, but leave the top of the air cleaner off. Dump some of whatever grade fuel you are using, right into the throttle butterflies, while starting it (that will require a 2nd person). That should solve the issue. If not, it's just a bad starter, and that needs to be replaced, all my options above are to fix it with limited or no money.
Thanks
