So, is this worth getting?
Classic mode comes out today, so maybe.
Classic mode comes out today, so maybe.
Wait, for real? As in "No more classes and outrageous stuff, just a few guns, a shovel, and placeable blocks."

I mean, I was playing it last night, and it wasn't bad, it just wasn't the same and what I would hope it would be.

Do elaborate on classic mode. What's it do?
Buy it right now, classic mode is released today along with 5 new maps. It's a fun game on its own merits, classic mode is probably just going to make it better.
Do elaborate on classic mode. What's it do?

Classic mode is a standalone mode that will aim to bring a tear of joy to every AoS veteran’s eye, as the charm of the early days of Ace are re-imagined through the modern game. This mode will be built as part of the current game, modelled around the era of v0.1 - v0.4, whilst tweaking it to include the best of the rest.
This mode will not be an exact replica, far from it, but we will get it as close as possible by working closely with the community and reintroducing the most popular elements from previous iterations.
This mode will be very much sculpted over time by the community, and I will be working closely with key members of the community to help develop the mode into a one that feels like the good old days, but better.
This release is setting the foundation for what Classic Mode will become. Rather than release the mode we decide it should be, we’re launching the core framework for a mode that you will help us create. This update is more than the sum of its parts – it’s us asking the passionate, creative Ace community to help build the game they want to play. So, stand to! This is just the beginning...
Join your brothers in arms in the upcoming Classic Mode featuring:
- The Rifle; there are many like it, but this one is yours
- A bespoke mode featuring stripped back game play that is based on the classic version of the game
- A game mode that is styled in the theme of World War I/II throughout
- Maps that are inspired by the World War style, plus a few fan favourites from the classic version of the game
- Slower gameplay in terms of manoeuvrability that will allow player to execute more tactical strategies
- Return of the Deuce, an updated version of the classic single class character
- Simple equipment, no more than any Deuce needs on the battlefield
- Regular updates driven by the community
- Plans to further develop the mode via implementing classic features & introducing new ones that are fitting for Classic
...and much more!

Trenches should be so much fun.
Well I decided to gamble on it for future success.
Got Chivalry too.
People are having very favorable experiences with classic mode, if you have any interest at all you should buy it right now.
Yep, I think classic mode sold me.
Yeah, I'm loving Classic Mode. I hadn't been playing it much since release because Modern is just a clusterfuck where skill and tactics can't shine. Classic though is great.
The way I see it if you are only going to play classic mode you might as well play the original FREE Ace of Spades.
It runs amazing on OLD PCs because all the graphics are sprites in 3D space.
There are no textures :v:

I think both modes are fun, but just in different ways.
I do prefer the more tactical approach, but the new style is also fun to mix things up when you just kind of want to play mindlessly.
Also, the classic Ace of Spade's graphics literally gave me migraines. And I'm not even one of those people who complain about 3D movies or low FOV.
As someone who just bought the game the normal mode is really hard to get into, I'm surprised classic feels so much better.
Tempting to try it for the classic mode but it still peeves me that you can't host your own games.
edit: Meh, caved and bought it for $4.15 thanks to a friend discounting it.
It's really fucking laggy and extraordinarily crash happy.
It feels like the devs never even bothered to test the net code or the stability of it.
Played the vanilla crazy modes in new AOS and they were pretty fucking eh.
But classic is fucking awesome. Like you get the simple gameplay and building AND the better visuals.
It's a win win IMO. I'm probably gonna live on classic mode.
Needs fewer, higher capacity servers though. Not saying like 200 players but maybe like 32 or something. It feels pretty eh to have like a battlefield sized bap but only 8 people on the enemy team.

Those are problems on your end, i've never experienced lag (outside of an isolated incident or two usually invovling large things falling) or crashes.

Ive only played for half an hour, but I never got any lag or crashes.
To be fair, you are using XP. It's not a bad OS, but it is outdated.
The zombie mode is pretty fun too, the only complaints I have are that zombies dig too fast and that rocketeer can just run away endlessly
Very fun game, with or without friends. I usually only play it with though since it can get pretty boring quickly, so I'd buy the 4 pack. Totally worth it though.
Holy shit you can take out buildings by destroying the foundations of it.
Fucking buy this right now.

I bought it for me and a friend to play. He said he wanted it.
Then he bailed out and when to play ghost fucking recon.
Aaaaaaaagh. I could have given it to someone else if you didn't want it.
I pissed off all of Blue earlier today on Crossroads by digging out the entire underside of the tower and dropping it out from under them. Then I went hopping around and laughing maniacally down the street as my team cheered.

I doubt that an OS would affect performance whatsoever, hell, the older it is - the less resources it uses.
It's interesting then that my ping is 100+ for pretty much all servers in AoS and yet in games like Battlefield 2 or L4D2 it's in the 30s and below.
Whatever, really, I'll just go back to the original for my quick destructive FPS fix.
I just took down an entire fucking bridge in zombie mode because fuck you that's why.

Buy this fucking game.

Me and some classmates got kicked out once because we were playing this, having this fight on a massive bridge in the center of the map until someone took down the supports and the entire thing came crashing down all of a sudden.

Back in the pre-retail versions, entire servers would declare christmas truces so that everyone can pitch in and level a whole goddamn mountain.
