AMD has "Ghz Edition" cards that use this GPU architecture (which not surprisingly, run at 1000 Mhz), so it's not like the console will suffer much problems related to higher clocks.

It's not like your usual GPU which is on its own chip and has its own cooling. Having the CPU along with a relatively powerful GPU on a single chip makes it bigger and hotter, and considering the consoles are fairly small and don't have space for great cooling they have to make some compromises.
Expect complaints where their xbox ones have overheated and a funny smell is coming from them.
Microsoft isn't a bunch of kids who are trying to make their laptop go faster, I doubt that this is going to harm the hardware. [editline]2nd August 2013[/editline] It's a fairly unnecessary change though.
I dunno, they couldn't get the cooling right last gen for ages, unless they purposefully kept the chip running slower to aid this gen, or really took cooling into consideration, it might suffer again.
The console war is getting to a point where I cant actually remember why Im being told I should get the PS instead of the Xbox. Dont really care about always being online because I am.
Can't decide which Next gen console to get? Flip a coin.
It's not always online anymore.
Still have to pay a fee just to be online so you can be bombarded with ads and use services like Netflix that your already paying for. And yes PS is going to charge as well, but their online service has always worked just as well.
The articles reasoning is pretty fucking flawed. "Always on" means "always online", not that the console must be turned on. Abolishing that makes no difference in the wiggle room that they have. Chances are AMD has improved the manufacturing and Microsoft is getting some higher-binned products.

Kinect always connected. What could possibly go wrong?

The issues were with the used solder. Plus keep in mind that the xbox1 is pretty large, probably to accomade for this and doesn't use an internal powerbrick.

It would be cool if PS4 and XBONE players could play together on a same server on BF4 for example
I assumed it meant that the networking card wouldn't always be on, conserving power and heat.
That would a negligible at best (and most probably completely unnoticeable), and even then - why would the network card be turned off? This clock speed will apply for all Xbox Ones, not just the Ones (høhø) not connected to the internet.
Can't decide which Next gen console to get? Flip a coin.
Easier to look at exclusives.
I like this console war that's going on. We are getting better and cheaper deals, just because one wants to be better than the other.

No one ever tried to say it functioned better until now that is pay2play, so all of the sudden "it functioned better".
It would be cool if PS4 and XBONE players could play together on a same server on BF4 for example
Would definitely make getting one console just because all your friends are also getting that console obsolete only reason I ever bought a 360
clock isn't speed, it's just a measure of many oscillations per second there is
Expect complaints where their xbox ones have overheated and a funny smell is coming from them.
FSOD? Funny Smell Of Death. Called it here first. Was there a logical reason for a mere 33mhz bump? I don't have much experience with console hardware but I recall back in the PS2/N64 days with such limited resources, just changing the clock speed (or oscillation etc etc) of a given component could have all sorts of crazy consequences. Perhaps there was a specific feature or problem that this change helped overcome, who knows.
More like they underclocked it 7% less because they improved the cooling, I'm sure
The amount of people ITT who don't know what they're talking about...
