Been playing this the last few days, it's really really fun but there need to be way more players.
It seemed kinda alright, and asymmetrical gameplay usually makes for an interesting experience, but it's still not the Legacy of Kain game we were waiting for. On it's own merits it seems ok-ish, but as an LoK game it's probably rather weak, probably moreso than Blood Omen 2 which was considered amongst the weaker of the original 5 titles. That said it's still technically in Early Access, even though there are a lot of games that have stagnated in Early Access and sat on their laurels, but hopefully if they make enough of a profit on this they can get to work on reviving Dead Sun and give us a proper Legacy of Kain game, since if a thing makes money, it proves to publishers that making more games like it is a good idea moneywise. With that in mind, hopefully that train of thought only extends to "making a proper Legacy of Kain game should bring in lodsofemone" rather than "we should make more asymmetrical multiplayer games like Nosgoth". Don't get me wrong, asymmetrical multiplayer is a fair sight more interesting than two teams that play the same (those still have their place though), but I'd rather have another Soul Reaver style action-adventure (sans the overuse of block-pushing puzzles) than another multiplayer title where each team has different playstyles associated with them.
On that note however I believe it's kind of unfair how many people are instantly assuming this game is garbage just because it's not the kind of game they were expecting coming out of the LoK universe. It's obvious a lot of care went into this game, for an early access title it's extremely polished and balanced. And with the name just being Nosgoth instead of LoK: Nosgoth it's fairly obvious they want people to view this as it's own thing but just in the same setting. Now if there's evidence that this got made instead of a new singleplayer game I could understand why people would react that way. But to my knowledge there's been no reason to assume such a thing. If you like the setting and you enjoy multiplayer games that spice things up don't pass this up just because you'd prefer another singleplayer game.

After they killed off the Defiance sequel they tried to make Dead Sun which in turn got killed off in favor of this game. Whether care went into this or not, it exists because the rights holders want to make money not because they want to do the license any sort of justice.
True, but I'll probably still get it when it's out of beta. Speaking of which, it is actually meant to be a free-to-play title, and the "admission price" shown on Steam is meant to be for accessing it earlier through the cheapest of the Founder's packs, which apparently contains $20 worth of Runestones (the in-game currency). I'll give it a chance, but I'm not prepared to lay down the coin for it. Plus I still need to upgrade.

Perhaps the game just wasn't turning out as well as they expected, at least some of it is being reused now. And who says that just because it's a multiplayer only title that it doesn't do the lisence any sort of justice?

All I know is that the game is great and doesn't seem like your typical cheap cash-in of an existing lisence. If it was they probably would've made it a MOBA anyway. Looking at you Guardians of Middle Earth.
