and this is why diablo 3 was a bust.
lol yes lets stop pirates and cheaters by giving them a fun challenge and making piracy a better service
I wouldn't have ever even played it had that been the case...
It sucks when your friend or brother is online and he wants to join this game, but you realize you’re an offline character and he’s an online character, and there’s no way to transfer over because offline characters can be hacked and hex-edited to hell and back, right?
But why? Why is that a problem if people play online with cheated characters? It's not like it's a competitive game. In Torchlight II you can play offline, use the console, hack your save file and still play online and I see nothing wrong with that.
I played hundreds of hours of Diablo 2 and only a fraction of that was played online. I'm a fan of Diablo 3 but the people who make the game really need to stop talking about always-online unless it's about removing it.
Go suck a fucking rhinos cock Blizzard. Worse than EA, jesus fuck.

I used to edit Titan Quest saves to get around small annoyances. Yes technically it's cheating but who cares? Especially when you are playing with friends that are cool with it anyway. Also it seems like only really the people who work on Diablo 3 say stupid shit publicly.

Blizzard got the dumbs or what
This is coming from someone who only worked at the company since 2009, so I think someone talking about a game that is older than their entire tenure at Blizzard isn't fucking qualified to talk about what should and shouldn't have happened back then.
that would've been wonderful especially with all the hacked god items everyone and their dog had
Activision's corruption is in way too deep at Blizzard. Goddamn.
Online only would have been impossible for Diablo 2. When it came out internet was just starting to make it's way out of the dial-up era and it was hardly reliable. The model they ended up going with was perfect. They gave you offline, multiplayer lan over the internet and multiplayer on official servers. Two went unregulated allowing you to just do whatever you wanted without consequence. Many people enjoy that. The third was perfect for people who enjoy playing by the rules and hate having that one douche bag insta-kill you in town.
Go suck a fucking rhinos cock Blizzard. Worse than EA, jesus fuck.
Actually I think they're better than EA, I mean yeah they do shitty things like DRM, but at least the games aren't bug ridden and unstable on PCs
actually if you played diablo 2 online in any significant way youre likely to agree hacked characters often ruined the game, which is why blizz added closed realms where your character and information is stored onto the server. a precursor to diablo 3 [editline]15th November 2013[/editline]
But why? Why is that a problem if people play online with cheated characters? It's not like it's a competitive game.
yes diablo 2 was a competitive game and there were rankings
actually if you played diablo 2 online in any significant way youre likely to agree hacked characters often ruined the game, which is why blizz added closed realms where your character and information is stored onto the server. a precursor to diablo 3
Not really, there's barely any truth to this. Everyone I know who played diablo 2 competitively was massively disappointed with 3, and every single one of them agree it should have offline. Obviously hackers ruined the game but open play wasn't for playing competitively against randoms, it was for playing with your friends and in situations where online wasn't possible.
I can imagine it. "OH SWEET IM GOING TO KILL DIABLO ON HARDCORE!" "MOOOOM WHY ARE YOU ON THE PHONEEEEE"

This statement hurts me deeply inside. I didn't even have internet when diablo 2 came out. This is ridiculous. I've learned to hate Blizzard since Diablo III release and they keep giving me more reasons.
well dont get me wrong i hated diablo 3 but i get what the guy's saying about online only and was just pointing out something like that was added to diablo 2 obviously not being able to play offline with characters you have no intention of playing competitively with is stupid as hell
wait but then what was your point? he said there shouldn't have been offline and then you said that we'd be likely to agree??? it kinda seems like you're contradicting yourself here
wait but then what was your point? he said there shouldn't have been offline and then you said that we'd be likely to agree??? it kinda seems like you're contradicting yourself here
well i read the article not just the headline and he was talking about how the separation of characters had to be implemented because the game had both an offline and an online component. i can agree with that and its pretty logical. i believe him when he says that it was controversial and that diablo 3 is better off not having that separation. but i still think its dumb because a section of the fanbase obviously wants offline characters and i dont think youd compromise or lose anything by having it i dont know why everyone wants to hate on this guy it seems to me he wants to make a good game
i dont know why everyone wants to hate on this guy it seems to me he wants to make a good game
Hitler wanted to make a good world. Not sure why everyone hates him.

Yeah, sure. I would've just had to convince my dad that yes, the $60/mo I'm racking up playing D2 online is definitely something he should pay for. I'm sure he would've said yes and not told me 'why don't you just play some more X-Com' to which I would've gone 'you know, you're right dad. Why am I not playing X-Com this very moment'. And then you would've lost my sale.

If Blizzard didn't have WoW supporting them, their bad decisions would have killed them off already Diablo 2 should have always been online? Well I'm glad that idea worked out so well in Diablo 3
and this is why diablo 3 was a bust.
This is why if blizzard keeps thinking like this they are going to no longer be a company in 5 years from now.
And i was just thinking about buying the D3 once i get some cash for it. :(
and this is why diablo 3 was a bust.
commercially successful
