Which would you reccomend for a home server, running stuff like a Webserver, and partially CS:S and Minecraft server and stuff along those lines? You're the experts. I'm currently running Ubuntu Server, which as it's ment to. But any reccomendations, cons and pros on stuff? Thanks.
Arch if you want the most up-to-date software. Debian if you want security and stability. Ubuntu Server if you want something easy to set up. I'd usually suggest Debian, but seeing as it's a home server it's possible that you'll benefit from using Arch.
Personally, I run CentOS. It's rock hard stable.
A server must be well tested and supported: so Debian or CentOS/RHEL.
FreeBSD
debian master race
Yum annoyed me on Cent OS, I'm using Debian now which has apt-get and I'm finding it really good.
I run debian with testing repos (more recent packages), i've had months of uptime with few issues. I also run source and minecraft servers on debian, it works great. For hosting, I use nginx which is probably the best web server around.
Only Debian!
Yum annoyed me on Cent OS, I'm using Debian now which has apt-get and I'm finding it really good.
I hate apt. The output is shit garbage. Yum at least has readable output. Anyway I'd recommend CentOS, but for a home server it doesn't really matter. Any desktop distro should do fine for home usage.
Debian is the way to go for a server. but Ubuntu server is good aswell for a home server.
