• Monitor goes blank when uninstalling new nVidia drivers?!

So I wanted to update my GPU drivers because it's been forever since I updated them, obviously. Anyway, whenever I update my drivers, I always get rid of the old ones first, reboot, and then install the updated ones. Here's where everything goes wrong. During the uninstallation of the old drivers, all of a sudden, my screen goes black and a few seconds later, my monitor loses its input and it just goes plain black instead of lit black. This never happened before so I flipped out because my PC was running and everything and I couldn't see shit. After quite a while I finally found a way to get everthing back working. I had to boot using my Windows Vista DVD and then do a system restore. Usually, system restores never work for me but thank god it did this time. But this system restore had some nasty side effects. Such as:

Java is completely fucked. I don't know how this could have happened but anything Java-related just stops working. Like Minecraft for example. I'll try reinstalling it, see if that works.

YouTube videos take forever to start playing. The little loading screen you get right before playing a video just hangs for about 10 seconds and then the video plays as usual.

I haven't played a lot of games since the system restore but I'm not having any performance problems in either Unreal Tournament 2004, Modern Warfare 2 or CS:S. But I did notice is that it took quite some time until UT2004 actually booted. Way longer than usual.

Every time I boot I get this message saying that Generic Monitor needs to be installed so it asked for a CD with the right drivers on it. I put my original CD with my GPU drivers on but it said it couldn't find the right software.
Everything else seem to work fine but I really want to get this sorted out. It's these little things that annoy me. So does anyone know how to fix this? As in, do a clean install of my GPU drivers without getting a blank screen when uninstalling my old drivers? And what's causing this blackout in the first place? Specs: XFX nForce 750i SLI XFX GTX 260 Intel Q6600 2.4 GHz Maxtor HDD 1TB Corsair Dominator RAM 4GB Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit (OEM) Any help is greatly appreciated.
As for youtube, flash may be fucked up. Rest sounds like generic GPU driver oddness, did you install the latest one after system restore? Also how the hell you even uninstall those? been trying to re-install my old ones forever since latest broke the fan causing overheating, but latest driver blocks old drivers, uninstalling them sounds like a bad idea right now, but i'd like to know anyways
