Calling Medieval experts. After great battles, what happened to the corpses afterwards?

While i was playing Total War i kept wondering. In real life when they had really big battles, did they send people to pick up every single corpse? Or did they just leave them to rot and turn into skeletons?
if so, why aren't we finding thousands of corpses everywhere we go?
I'd assume they'd either let them to rot, or they'd gather them and burn them.
That's my guess anyway.
They were probably stripped of valuables [expensive armor, gold, etc] by the victorious army and local peasants and buried in mass graves or left to rot. The Islamic world and Christian world probably had different ways of dealing with the issue but I imagine the Islamic one was more enlightened.
In the case of the Battle of Agincourt there were mass burials, bodies would probably be looted and dealt with by locals or foot soldiers.
I agree.
That would be the easiest solution.
