• GeForce 8600 GT Dual Monitors

Sup Facepunch, I asked a similar question to this a couple months back but I am deciding to give it another shot with an added twist. I want to have dual monitors using my Nvida GeForce 8600 and only using my Nvidia GeForce 8600. If it's still confusing, is it possible to connect one monitor through the VGA port (Blue one I think) and another to the DVI port all on the same video card and get two seperate screens. If so please elaborate and/or post a link to a guide. Thanks!
As far as I know, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to. Check if there are some options in your GPU software. I know ATI's Catalyst Control centre has options for this. Do you have a spare monitor kicking around that you could plug in just to give it a test? Like, if you have two PCs in the house, quickly pop the monitor from the other one on your PC. HDTVs tend to have a VGA input as well, but that may not be as easy to carry to your PC. [editline]06:24PM[/editline] First hit on Google suggests you can dual-display so long as you don't have the card as part of an SLI setup.
Yes its possible. You just plug them in and windows should identify then as dual monitors. If not its easy to set-up just by right click desktop > properties > screen resolution tab (XP) or on vista just right click desktop > screen resolution.
I have tried Thor's suggestion before and I only got it to display one of them although it detected both. As for Roflcakes, I'm not sure what an SLI setup is, but my card is "SLI ready" according to my video card box.
SLI is when you have 2 or more cards linked together so they can both processor 3D data. What OS are you using? The 2nd card they are disabled.
I use both DVi's on my GTX 295, so I would guess it's the same on older cards?
Yes it is possible. I had an 8600gts that i plugged 2 monitors into(1gpu). I used windows vista home premium. Just shut down your computer and plug both monitors in. Turn it on and set it up through display settings.
Now I'm reading through this and it seems reasonable, but would the dvi port still work if I used a vga to dvi converter on it? And if it doesn't work, is there any other tool to use to dual screen? Like I heard about a monitor switchbox or something.

Yes it works. Make sure you update drivers though. There are options in the "Nvidia Settings"
