So Basicly I have a Old HDD ( I mean Old, I have had it for 3 Pc's In a row so about 5 -6 years old.) Now Im begining to worry about how badly will I be off if this drive was to break. It currently contains: * OS * Main Docs * My Old PC * A lot of my digital video Now, 2 Years ago I got a 250GB HDD to give some more space in the system and I store on that drive: * Backups (Website, Old pc) * Steam (75GB of games and stuff) * All of my music Now I want to buy this: Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 Ive heard good things about Samsung drives. To replace my 160GB Drive. Is there a flawless way to just move all of the data (And partitions) on that drive into the new 1TB one? I am saying this because I am worried that if I reload my OS that the student licence (Legit) will break (I dont want to talk about that) 1000th Poat :D
Norton ghost or similar program might do the trick. No idea where it'll put the extra space tho.
It'll probably either put it in a new partition or in unpartitioned space.
I think Norton Ghost would create a partition the size of the old drive, which can be expanded afterward. I am not entirely sure since I haven't had to use it in a long time. Don't let the Norton name scare you away, it's a good product.
Paragon Partition Manager or a linux live cd + gparted.
Hiren's BootCD will have all suggested software if you want to keep it simple.
hiren's is so great use that.

Then it will create the logical the same size as the previous HDD. And yeah, don't let the norton name scare anyone. Ghost is a great product, and I use it on a regular basis. Also, use Hirens BootCD. It comes with a lot of great products bundled inside it.

Ok, what would Happen to the spare space on the Hdd, You know the 840GB of it? Move into a empty 'space'?
