Ok, I aint a techie sort of guy: I just enjoy dem vidya gaems. Eitherway, here I go.
About a year ago, I could run Crysis on full with some minor AA, to show you the benchmark. Lately, I have seen significant drops in FPS across all titles, so I decided to do another benchmark. I am running it on medium no AA.
What the fuck happened? Its the same software and hardware, yet it is running slower. Only thing that has changed is that I have installed more stuff, I guess. I dont torrent shit or look up porn/stupid shit either, so I dont expect a virus/trojan/whatever name the media has made up for them now.
I am running a intel/ATi setup, 12mb ram (parents, girlfriend AND uncle each bought me 2mb of ram one year, lol), 1tb classic disc hard-drive. Can provide more details if needed.
EDIT:
More info

Always provide all the details off the bat, so nobody has to waste time asking you for them.
full specs would be helpful
at least give us the CPU/GPU model
and your PSU

Could you provide more specs?
oh also resolution, just in case
[editline]15th January 2011[/editline]
no merge
Posted full specs, resolution is and always has been 1920x1200

Everyone comes in to correct my post, but wont help me.
Sigh.
What GPU?
It says in the image does it not?
4800 series could be a 4830, 4850, 4870 or 4890, probably others, too.
Where ever I look in my system, only says "4800 series". I think it was a 4870... ages since I got this thing.
I know its 2 of em in crossfire, das bout it.
Make sure they're still crossfire'd correctly in the CCC, that's all I can think of, other than having lots of stuff running in the background.
So, update drivers and check if they're crossfire'd correctly. Make sure the crossfire ribbon is seated correct, too. While you're looking, check what GPU it is.
Shitshitshit I just realized I am meant to be downtown, 10 minutes ago. I will crack er open and do all that later or tommorow.

There's your problem.

6 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 12. Check the image, I am shit with computers and I understand that.
Backup any media and documents,
Format C:\
Reinstall Windows.
I try to do this every 3 months, just to prevent registry errors from building up, clean out any crud that tends to linger and to knock out any latent, undetectable viruses that might be hanging around (although that last one is a very long shot).
Make sure you've got drivers and installs for any programs you use.
Make sure you're not losing any serial numbers or registered applications if you're using a pre-built machine (Dell, HP, etc - something you didn't build yourself). If you ARE using a pre-built machine, make sure you can re-register your applications and antivirus after you reinstall Windows.
If you want you can save your firefox/browser settings/bookmarks/etc, but honestly I prefer a completely clean reinstall.

There are other things you need to take into consideration when reinstalling Windows, and I've probably missed most of them; anybody remember what they are?
Easy there, killer. Was just joking.
You might want to reformat/reinstall your OS, as a last resort. If not, it's might be a hardware issue.
EDIT: Ninja'd. :ninja:
Use speccy for better details
Computers slow down, its nothing new. It's all that porn and all those viruses on your HDD.

Yeah, but I aint got no pawn on this. Would uninstalling shit I never anymore speed things up?
Also, they are 4870s as I thought. Like it matters, though, I think I just have too much crap installed and I haven't cleaned stuff out since.... forever.
Anyone recommend anything for general clean up of duff files n shit?
ccleaner, google it

Yes, 12 MB.
I think you need atleast 1024 MB in order to run Crysis.
I hope you really mean GB.
of course he meant GB use your common sense people

Getting Mb and Gb mixed up is a little more than a mistake.
"I have a problem guys. I got a new 1 TB hard drive, and my computer says I only have 982 mb free. How do I fix this?"
Anyhow, my suggestion is to do a full wipe of the hard drive and reinstall Windows. Computers naturally get slower as they age, so the best thing you could do it is wipe it. It should also extend the life a bit since the hard drive won't have to seek as much. While you are at it, partition the drives. You can use one the partitions for backups if you ever want to reinstall windows again.

I am going to be perfectly honest, they are all b something or whatever. Get outside more instead of memorizing all that crap.

If you're going to teach others, at least do it right :colbert:
b are bits.
B are bytes. You are the one mixing them up.
And learn the metric prefixes. Mega(M) is 10^9 times larger than mili(m). Apparently you don't know that.
Re-install Windows and you should be getting the same performance you had when you first got the computer.
Backup files that you need to an external hardboiled, then insert your Windows CD and restart the computer, you should get "Do you want to start from the CD?" when the computer starts or you will have to press a button to select the boot device depending on your settings.
Delete your main partition and create a new one and install Windows on it, after the install is finished you might have to look up drivers for your Graphics Card, Sound Card etc.
Important note: All your programs, files and porn will be deleted after you do this, that's why you should backup files.
I am going to be perfectly honest, they are all b something or whatever. Get outside more instead of memorizing all that crap.
oh shit man because he knows that 1kb = 1024 bytes, 1mb = 1024kb, 1gb = 1024mb, and 1tb = 1024gb, he never goes outside?
holy fuck your logic is amazing

there's no pattern there at all!
