Backpedaling
Why does your gender matter on a space sim game? I mean, I get that she wanted to have a womens only group, but why does it matter? No one cares until you go out of your way to attract attention to your gender.
“Lauresh,” attempting to organize a women’s-only group in the wake of some especially, er, uncomfortable forum threads,

For years I was part of a community that simply didn’t have women. At first I thought it was because space sims didn’t appeal to women… but I came to understand it was because of how immature the average forum user was towards them. It broke my heart hearing from women who loved fighting aliens but who had to pretend to be men in order to even talk to anyone about it, lest their PM inboxes fill up with come-ons and their social networking get invaded with awful dudes.
And every time things like that are present. It's really terrible, and needs to stop.
Every time a group is made, or talked about being made, people always say this. And every time things like that are present. The problem here is that its a 'womens only group' instead of a much more inclusive and friendly 'no creeps allowed group' basically doing a 'women only' or even a 'men only' group is just asking to brew up shit and hatred, merely because people don't particularly like being automatically excluded from a club, no matter how distant from them, just because they're the wrong gender, ESPECIALLY on something like a videogame or forum. I mean think about it, if I went onto an MMO, made a clan, and just went 'THIS CLAN IS FOR MEN ONLY NO WOMEN', wouldn't that just rub you and pretty much everyone else the wrong way, regardless of it's intentions?

I get that they're feeling left out because the user base is mostly male, but can you see that they're acting just like those people that go "If you're a woman you can fuck off".
