some bios updaes from around 2004 - 2006 made by HP automatically flash the moment you open the exe, bind a bios update to another program and you brick their bios.
you can update your BIOS from windows, i assume a virus could mess with the BIOS itself but not the BIOS settings
Yes and no. It won't change the boot from hdd to cd because it's more or less pointless, if this was a virus attacking your bois it would just brick your board and that would be that.

Viruses like this were created to teach people not to open stupid shit and to get the same stupid people off the internet.
I made a "virus" before where it can erase the BIOS of most chipsets by using winflash API.
So yes, a virus can mess with your BIOS
I remember that after 98 this problem was fixed but I seem to be incorrect.
