Why is everyone in polidicks so salty? They're starting to make the dead-sea look bad... Is it Tudd? Is it all the Tumblrinas? Is the looming impending doom of newpunch? Maybe its me just calling someone a pussy cuz they drink two beers and its GG. So whats your opinion?
Imagine actually visiting Polidicks.
Imagine actually visiting Polidicks.
I could imagine its a lot like this; You know, replace mortons with "Polidicks" and it fits in so nicely without the lube
IMO it's because its midway between debate and news So news is buried in debate And debate never gets closure, the thread goes quiet after a few days and the issue is dredged up over and over again, often in an emotive and stimulating context, so the same old arguments get repeated over and over

I get it, but wow its so said.
So its a mudslide down hill? I get it, but wow its so said.
I don't understand
Politics in general has gotten nastier; while the userbase was a bit younger back in the day, debate was also (somewhat) less of a dumpster fire.
while the userbase was a bit younger back in the day, debate was also (somewhat) less of a dumpster fire.
I see no connection between those two.
I see no connection between those two.
Kids don't argue too good in politics. At least, from my rather shameful experience.
Politics in general has gotten nastier; while the userbase was a bit younger back in the day, debate was also (somewhat) less of a dumpster fire.
It's still far better than most of the internet. I see the general hostility in Polidicks as a reflection of the current political sphere, especially inside the US.
Fuck Tudd, hate his threads, wish i could have a script that hides them from popular threads
Kids don't argue too good in politics. At least, from my rather shameful experience.
My love, the fuck did you expect in moderating facepunch?
it's the users. people who bring Trump in when he's not relevant to the discussion. you know, kinda like your shitty poll options
I'd say it's because politics in general have gotten a lot more hostile recently. There's a pretty distinctive wedge that's only driving everyone further apart.
No turnip option. Do not vote.
still missing comedy hurr option that gets you permad
My love, the fuck did you expect in moderating facepunch?
A speedboat.
still missing comedy hurr option that gets you permad
Don't give me ideas c:
idk, probably the atmosphere. majority of the threads are politics/trump shit and they tend to divulge into arguments and what not that feel one-sided, it was entertaining to watch at one point especially that one-off post like that one dude who complained about an insurance company even though his wife or something was on the phone and hit someone. but it hasn't happened in a while, so it's just boring.
Tudd doesn't post in Polidicks anymore because he knows most of his source will get him banned. So he sticks to SH or videos to post "centrist, really makes you think, except not really" videos, which is a whole nother topic. Politics in general has gotten much more divisive and polarizing, which is why Polidicks has become what it has. Thanks Trump.
why does it even exist?
Someone says something stupid in a live/spoken conversation Everyone goes "that's stupid" They argue about why it's stupid If someone else comes in who missed the convo, they won't restart everything, they'll jump into whatever's being currently discussed, if that Someone says something stupid in a forum Everyone goes "that's stupid" They argue about why it's stupid Except, because of the written format, it's like the stupid thing is being said over, and over, and over again to whoever comes in. So it's always the start of a conversation to someone, no matter how many other people already moved on from it. AKA, everyone feels the need to tell why THEY think it's stupid and the arguments keep restarting
why does it even exist?
Containment board
why does it even exist?
I'm glad it does, makes SH so much cleaner.

AKA, everyone feels the need to tell why THEY think it's stupid and the arguments keep restarting
That's also kind of why I like (and hate) the Reddit ordering system when it comes to comments - something inane/silly/jokey/poor taste gets downvoted to oblivion and sent to the bottom of the page(well, it used to, now everyone's a fucking comedian on there and comments are carcinogenic). That system kinda self-sorts its way out to getting the better/informative discussions on top to keep the topic on track. The only other alternative is absolutely strict moderation of each and every thread, which also ends up killing conversation or shows as moderator bias (like, for example, r/AskWomen, where although never actually stated, men are strongly discouraged from even talking in there, though women are allowed to, and actively participate, in r/AskMen discussions. Posts in r/AskWomen are routinely removed for inane shit like "Derailing" or even "invalidation"). Seriously, go take a look at any of their comments on any question and see if you can find a single one without comments removed. That's what ridiculous levels of moderation are.
Fuck Tudd, hate his threads, wish i could have a script that hides them from popular threads
I have a script that hides the hell out of stuff that's rust related, made back then. You could modify it if you wanted
A speedboat. Don't give me ideas c:
Sounds like you already have ideas.
Tudd doesn't really post threads all that often anymore. And the few that he does always degenerate into "I hate tudd threads" regardless of what he posts. Majority of the mosh pit of Polidicks is constant news and discussion of the dementia patient in the oval office.
Yeah, the issues have devolved a bit to concepts and ideas that nobody seems to care to fully articulate and have a proper debate over. They debate but never change their mind, and it's understandable. Why should someone for LGBTQ right's change their mind? (And in the mind of plenty of people incapable of differentiating their own logic and truths from the bible to live by) Religious people don't want to give up their views because it's what they consider part of their religion. Or the irreligious just dont like something and stick to their guns, it doesn't have to have a massive reason. Politics was already disintegrating into what it has become decades ago. I remember when people bashed the newspapers of the late 90s and early 2000s for being biased and (loosely with this term) "fake news". Media was losing traction and people took to the intenet as it was becoming widespread then once dial-up was going away. Media wanted attention, so it became sensationalist just for the views. The media used to be the people's way of reporting the government here in the US and once sensationalist, chaos ensued. Oh well, it's a pandora's box that's opened and extremely hard to close without everyone's effort to agree and cooperate. But let's not do that and just prevent people from talking about it instead and make it so toxic that nobody will ever get the system fixed without something revolutionary, awe-inspiring, or crazy :hammered:
I don't even bother discussing politics anymore. Both sides are so quick to label you either a cuck or a bigot, and if your argument doesn't fit their narrative they won't concede any of your points. At that point why even bother. I think that might be why politics is so fucking hostile now. The people who discuss it frequently are too invested, and all the other people who aren't firmly locked into a side have no incentive to let their opinion be heard. You can't even say you're a moderate without both sides attacking you.
One problem that comes to my mind, is that Polidicks contains a disproportionate amount (compared to the userbase) of threads about US politics and/or Trump which have absolutely no significance for the rest of the world, and are honestly quite boring in the first place. Usually these are made by a handful of posters, in batches. And even alongside this, its not uncommon for threads about other countries to get completely derailed because somebody brings up something US/Trump related. Suddenly 45% of the forum has a familiar topic to talk about and it completely buries the original discussion (example, at least moderation was on point here!). Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against American users or topics, it's just that if you post multiple threads you should consider if those are about something that would be interesting to read for a person on the other side of the world. And it's a subforum that is very prone to derails so we all should be more careful about that.
polidicks is a shitfest because political discussion these days is just a big game of telephone. yes, trump blows and he has played no small part in making debate worse but the bigger problem is people are just fucking stupid you've got people who fundamentally agree but will spit at each other over the most inconsequential minutia you've got people who literally agree about everything spitting on each other because they're saying the same thing in different words you've got people who just want to post zingers and personal attacks and don't want to have a genuine discussion most people replying to someone else will immediately resort to belittling them, even if they are raising good points, instead of calmly having a discussion when someone is proven wrong they latch on to some error or unrelated part of your post so they don't have their pride hurt, because admitting you were mistaken means conceding defeat to the enemy!! people bring in totally unrelated shit to score brownie points, for example like sticking your head in the sand and pretending trump is the only reason why things are going bad "liberals" like to all-out assault and berate and dehumanize even moderate conservatives which just makes them hate us, because even if people are misinformed and intentionally misled, you really think they're going to hear out the side shouting "skinhead" at them?
