You guys have an opinion or viewpoint on this past people being free to post anonymously without fear of consequences for being a massive jerk or catering to their morbid sociopathy?
The whole world is full of hatred. I suppose it's easier to spill your feelings out on the Internet.
Raging Atheists
Raging Religious Peoples
Raging Politicians
Raging Fans
Raging Opposers
Raging Artists
Raging Talent-less People
When someone's behind a keyboard, given total anonymity, and a wide array of limitless communication and social access, they'll usually turn into massive cunts for the express purpose of being a massive cunt. The internet does that to people. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
It is in a way kind of fascinating, a human being just like the ones on the streets may be the most well mannered people you may have met, but become totally ballistic upon encountering something they don't like in the internet and write several paragraphs about it hatefully. Those who do not resort to horribly written insults count more on spiteful wit, Like Facepunch. Moral indignation or the need to cause needless strife while waiting for something that's reasonable to be pissed at to come by are few reasons I can think of as to why people go rabind on message boards.

Now You're Getting It!

No-one will punch you in the face for acting like an asshole if you do it anonymously while on the internet. Simple as that.
no repercussions means no holding back on your opinions
What people often forget about is also the sheer mass of people.
For example in games "omg community X is so TOXIC". If you encounter a jerk in a game, chances are actually pretty good that this person almost never rages, just this one time because of a particular shitty day or something, and because of the huge amounts of people you run into, you'll run into a lot of "first-time-ragers".
Then there's our all-time favorite, the "vocal minority". Everyone gets a voice, doesn't mean they use it. Seeing some numbers on that in different contexts would actually be awesome, but just consider your average youtube video. Most people don't even bother rating, so what kind of person decides to spend their time on leaving a dumb comment? Most of the time someone you would never talk to.
Which is another point, hating and harassing is simply less effort online than face-to-face
I'd like the record to show that unlike the rest of the mouth breathers that frequent this forum, I am never irrationally filled with this angsty sense of entitlement and spiteful rage that at times overcomes my manners.
Not even passive aggressively, really.
I'm a nice person when I'm not on the internet :v:
I act very much the same in real life as I do on the internet (especially in communities)
Because even though you are completely anonymous, you still have an online reputation to uphold.

let me add to this
Its all about reputation. although you have a reputation both in real life and online, its far easier to ditch your online reputation online than it is in reality. in reality people are generally conscious of their reputation (and for some it may be the only reason why they are kind at all) but offline you can do all the bad you want, and just give yourself a blank slate whenever needed.
Thats why you can tell a lot by a person online, because you can see their character when they dont have to worry much about their reputation
cuz pussy bicthes liek u startin shit lol
git wrekt
i've thought about this and realized that most people on the internet aren't assholes, its just that those who are assholes on the internet are really fucking loud

Just like reality
With the added bonus that they generally end up in politics as well
