Never played this but I've heard nothing but praise.
Might just pick it up
get it on gog. you get the ost and everything included.

also their old games are never absolutely 100% fucking broken like a lot of older games on steam are
Awesome deal for a good game.
Definitely one of the best gaming experiences I've had. Don't pass this up.
It's about damn time.
You gonna be fucking kidding me. SS2, on Steam?
Seems the franchise is now in better hands and who knows what's next. SS3?
The first thing you must do when if you buy this game.
Go into coop with a friend. Look at each other and start leaning left and right.
Did they fix the godawful netcode so that I can actually play co-op?

I always did that before starting a mission in SWAT 4.
Also, try to run while leaning :v:

Most of the older games on steam are pretty much just dos-box emulated. My father bought the full Tomb Raider franchise on steam when it was like 20€ and he has a hard time even running a game in widescreen while my GOG bought version of The Last Revelation runs in 16:9 with no effort.
Though right now system shock is actually cheaper on steam than on GOG. It doesn't come with all the nice goodies though.
This game had the best quotes.

I'm at the point where I'll check GOG for any old or indie game, since they started selling newer indie games. I miss the auto-updating of Steam, but in general I much prefer GOG because of its bonuses and more importantly the lack of any DRM.
This is good for the people that love to have all their games in one place
aka me.

Sure, last update to SS2 came last summer or so, but it's a rare occurence.
Do the widescreen fixes work on the Steam version?
gog version comes prepatched with it, so just get that. but to answer your question, yes they will.

I'm not overly knowledgeable about the patches but the Steam version seems to already have everything. I played in 1920x1080 for over an hour just now and the options were already there. I was also able to set my FOV to 110 with some CFG files that were already there. Game works great.
