Post books you think everyone should read, and if you want, a short explanation why.
House Of Leaves just because of how bizarre it is [t]http://i.imgur.com/y1R8QJz.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/MQ8wuw0.png[/t] This is pretty average for it
"The Cry of the Owl", "Erik The Viking" and "Martyn Pig". Old but really really good books. A must read if you like novels/psychological thrillers.
If you like the game
Alfie's Home

It's a neat book, comes with a map of the metro too, so you get to follow his adventure.
One of my favorite books of all time is: Shadow of the Wind It is an amazing book set in 1940's Barcelona. I finished the book pretty fast for its size. It was that good where i literally didn't put it down. I started reading at like 4 p.m. and read all through the night and the next morning. I should probably read it again. It was scary without being gory, romantic without being gushy, historical without being fucking boring, and very sad, and funny at parts too. I highly recommend this book.
The West Pier Very intriguing and smart story. it's actually part of a trilogy but the author died before writing the fourth and final book.

The chucklehead who threw one in my copy of that put it right in the blank square there. I thought it was part of the goddamn book. Do you know what it's like to try to decode an anti-theft sticker?
1984 [editline]14th May 2013[/editline] Might not be for everyone but I highly recommend it.
1984 [editline]14th May 2013[/editline] Might not be for everyone but I highly recommend it.
Of all the the books that I read as a part of the curriculum in high school, I enjoyed 1984 the most.
1984 [editline]14th May 2013[/editline] Might not be for everyone but I highly recommend it.
The movie seemed interesting as well. Should I read the book before watching the movie, or vice versa?
The movie seemed interesting as well. Should I read the book before watching the movie, or vice versa?
It isn't that daunting of a read (a little over 300 pages) so go with the source material first before watching the movie.
The Wheel Of Time by Robert Jordan(R.I.P.) Fantasy novel that is like LOTR in the first few books but slowly develops it's own style and it is one of the most epic series I've ever read in my life. I recommend it to everyone who wants a long fantasy novel(s) to read. Warning: It is a saga of 14 books and 11,916 pages long.
John Dies at the End and it's sequel This Book is Full of Spiders. Each are bizarre, interesting, creepy and humorous.
Non-fiction, but you should read it anyway. Explains, in depth but in a way that you can actually understand, what evolution is. Richard Dawkins doesn't even bash religion much in this.
Guy de Maupassant is a good naturalist author. If you haven't read his stuff in as part of high school mandatory literature then almost all his stuff is published online (http://www.readbookonline.net/stories/Maupassant/19/) Also, Jorge Luis Borges' short stories are fucking amazing. "Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius" is my favorite, which is also easily found online. (http://art.yale.edu/file_columns/0000/0066/borges.pdf) [editline]14th May 2013[/editline] Also "I, Pierre Riviere, Having Slaughtered My Mother, My Sister, and My Brother" is p. much the first ever crime novel, and is also 100% based in fact if you're into that. [editline]14th May 2013[/editline] And Hoshi Shin'ichi is a funny, awesome science fiction writer. His ideas are all interesting, funny and are generally satirical as heck. He's got a site but I don't think you can get his books directly from it.
Gunna have to check some of these out.

If you liked watching Apocalypse Now, you will enjoy reading Heart of Darkness.
I thought this book was amazing, and I do feel that other people should read it. But hey, each to their own.
I wanted to put down The Shadow of the Wind, but since that was put down.. Here's a short novel: The Westing Game Definitely worth reading

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream
Read Harry potter Or don't, really good read if you're a 14 year old girl.
I liked the hunger games series. Speaking of which, are there any other books about archers?
If you like the game
Much better than the game in my opinion in terms of story, the game was more just a lite version of the book.
