So he is bitching about a couple million USD while THQ is in the shitter
So he is bitching about a couple million USD while THQ is in the shitter
Someone else is worse off, so noone can be annoyed. Ever. Right guys?
"A couple million USD" is quite a lot of money you know
So he is bitching about a couple million USD while THQ is in the shitter
This is the most stupid thing ever to say. Why in the friggin world should they care about THQ? Should I lower my living standards because people in other countries have it worse?
He would be right. It's sad to see the front mission series turned into a third-person shooter with DLC, Final fantasy turned into a hallway rpg to bring in a 'larger crowd', Chrono Trigger used only as a copyright troll, only brought up when squeenix suppresses fan-games, The only reason they still have yet to make a final fantasy 7 remake, as they have announced twice this generation, is because they realize they will never live up to what the original game was. So instead, they release content in the same universe, relating to how things are crawling in cloud's skin, and his wounds they will not heal. Fan-tier work, really. I miss the old square and enix companies.
Both Square and Enix produced a ton of amazing games before they merged, one of them being my favorite game of all-time. It's terrible to see such good IPs die.
Whoah shit Square Enix was two separate companies once?
Whoah shit Square Enix was two separate companies once?
The more you know, yeah of course it used to be Squaresoft and Enix. And now they even own Eidos.
And now they even own Eidos.
We are the dead.
Whoah shit Square Enix was two separate companies once?
Yeah, Square was pretty much the king of the JRPG genre back in the day, with Final Fantasy and whatnot.
Eidos on the other hand is pumping out tons of great games, so I guess that was a good move on their part.
I've seen fans complaining that the merger killed both companies for ages. It is kind of a shame though, because it seems like in a lot of places they really do want to put forth the effort to make great games. It's just that they screw it up a lot.
Eidos on the other hand is pumping out tons of great games, so I guess that was a good move on their part.
Literally 90 percent of their revenue this year. Most of the things that are coming out of Japan contain about 5 percent original content, and are just remakes for portable platforms, or ports of older games to portable platforms.

I'm guessing the latter.
Well Square Enix / Eidos brought us Deus Ex 3, which is fucking amazing. Also the latest Hitman. also the Just Cause series and he Batman:Arkham series.
Even though Squeenix themselves haven't made a really good game in ages, they care about PC gamers, so they cool in my book.
Honestly I don't understand what happened to Japanese developers in general this gen.
Whoah shit Square Enix was two separate companies once?
Yeah, they merged because the first Final Fantasy movie was a steaming pile of shit that left Squaresoft almost bankrupt. Then Enix bought the company and voila
eidos kicks ass lately Just Cause Deus Ex Hitman Thief
Yeah, Eidos is kicking serious ass. They've managed to bring Deus Ex into modern gaming and make it universally praised, they've given us a kick-ass Just Cause game, and finally they've brought back everyone's favorite assassin and seem to be doing a good job with that too. I've been really happy with their games. Very underrated company.
I remember Squaresoft.
Honestly I don't understand what happened to Japanese developers in general this gen.
Most of them, I believe, weren't able to keep up with the next generation of consoles, thus alot of the best Japanese developed games are Handheld titles. Hell, the PSP is such a popular platform in Japan that developers refuse to move from it to the Vita.
I remember Squaresoft.
And thus the series was ruined forever. It's like they attempted a throwback to the first one and failed horribly. The names almost sound crazy on a Tolkien level, your protagonist is a monkey, and then a horribly-explained card game was added that I'm sure I'll have to master somewhere in the game to progress.
eidos kicks ass lately Just Cause Deus Ex Hitman Thief
I think you mean Thiaf
Honestly I don't understand what happened to Japanese developers in general this gen.
This gen? They've been ripping off stuff since the early 80s. The entire eastern scene has been derivative since day one. Gaming has grown up, Japanese devs haven't. There was a time when their superior work ethic and extreme attention to detail directly overshadowed anything the west could compete with, but when pc and consoles essentially became the same work platform, the west's ability to innovate and take chances in storytelling pretty much obliterated any chance a derivative-iterative model had to catch up. When you talk about anything other than mechanics or graphics, japanese devs are about 15 years behind, and they won't be catching up any time soon, and you can see the same issues in comics and movies.
Do I remember Squaresoft? Fuck yeah I remember Squaresoft.
Either all the good stuff is trapped in Japan or their game industry has stagnated. I'm guessing the latter.
Mostly the latter; you'd have to step into the games industry in Tokyo to actually know why its own market works against it).
Honestly I don't understand what happened to Japanese developers in general this gen.
Nintendo, Konami (MGS4 at least), Capcom, just off the top of my head. [editline]11th November 2012[/editline] does sega still make good games anymore?
So he is bitching about a couple million USD while THQ is in the shitter
that's just like talking about the starving children in africa.
