• Do you think games that are [blank] but done better warrant existence?

A couple buddies of mine were talking about how someone should make Darkest Dungeon again but remove major aspects of randomness, and add in more features for customizing players, and that got me thinking-- if you take a game you liked in principle and changed it up to fit your own vision, but it's an entire game, does that warrant it to be sold? Middle Earth Shadow of Wardor basically did this with games like Batman and Assassins creed, but they didn't even really improve it-- just put the core mechanics in a world that was alive and slapped on a new coat of paint. I mean, I suppose that would mean that EVERY single first person shooter made since doom would classify it as "Doom but done better (and in some case, worse)", but where would you say the line is drawn?
Entertainment and art in general doesn't really need a reason to exist, so, yeah. Not to mention if it's x but done better then it'll probably make fans of x happy. The only real place to draw the line is when it's clearly copyright infringing.
Not every game needs to break new ground, something that adds refinement and polish to a good idea is perfectly valid
copyright is only something corporations care about because it makes them money in an ideal world people would be able to make whatever they want. games in general are derivative of each other.
Games are an art form and thus subjective. Coming to a consensus on what is actually better would be impossible.
