I have this pc: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01564790&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=&cc=us&product=3825356&lang= I'm looking for the best vid card I can buy for around $100. I'm probably going to buy it from a microcenter or a bestbuy (not newegg). -preferably not one that wont overheat in this case
You already bought the PC? Ok, what games are you playing and what is your resolution? Also, why not Newegg, they have far better prices than either of your choices.
I don't have a credit card, and I've had the PC for a while and it can barely play tf2. my resolution is 1366x768 on my tv which I'm using now, but I'm start using my monitor which is 1440x900 or 1600x900 I dont remember
I'm looking for the best vid card I can buy for around $100. -preferably not one that wont overheat in this case
Oh yeah because otherwise I would've chosen one that overheats. You won't be able to get anything good for $100, what are you trying to run, also you wouldn't be able to get one because your power supply is not enough.
I would want to run MGS rising when it comes out. I always thought that 300w would be enough to support a new graphics card. Its not like anything around $100 is high end that would need more than that right?
300 watts is not enough. You could get a 4650 or something so you can run TF2. Also you will not be running MGS Rising with your budget. And can't you use your parents' credit card and pay them?
will 300w be enough for a 4650? [editline]03:26PM[/editline] okay, I changed my decision, link me a card that will run mgs rising, and the recommended wattage power supply I should buy for it
I'm not sure. I would get a cheap 4650 and a nice $40 PSU from Newegg. Find someone who can let you use their credit card. However, I would save up $550ish so you can get a new computer in the future.
how is this power supply? http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0227058
Newegg [editline]12:43PM[/editline] I'll find one for you on Newegg
how is this power supply? http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0227058
that's great for what you need and a good price too [editline]03:45PM[/editline]
Newegg [editline]12:43PM[/editline] I'll find one for you on Newegg
no, if he can use Micro Center then let him, they're cheaper than Newegg
I highly suggest you get that PSU from micro center, and get either this from newegg, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102901 Or find a cheaper one at microcenter. 4650s are shit for gaming. Unless you play source at 1024x1280, don't even get it. Its only good for a media PC, and that is all. But save up a bit more for a 4850. It will max your source games with 60+ FPS @ resolutions up to 1600x1200, and probably 1920x1200.
worth it
The 4850?
Really? I'll check out their site then.
Really? I'll check out their site then.
their site isn't what you want to look at, they normally have insane deals in their stores that last for months [editline]05:52PM[/editline] that you cannot get online [editline]05:52PM[/editline]
The 4850?
yes
Oh. I wonder if there is a mircocenter nearby.
Either get a 4670 (it'll be enough for maxing out source games), or a 4850 + a new PSU.
Either get a 4670 (it'll be enough for maxing out source games), or a 4850 + a new PSU.
No. I have two 4670s in two separate builds. Unless hes playing at 1024x1280 he will not max source.
What? At 1366x768 I can easily max out all of my Source games.
What? At 1366x768 I can easily max out all of my Source games.
1366x768 is lower than 1280x1024 1366*768=1049088 pixels 1280x1024= 1310720 pixels
The problem with source games is that you need a reasonable CPU to back up you GPU. A 4670 could max out source games but you'd need an athlon 635 or equivalent as your CPU at the very least
No lol. I'm playing it on a 4670 and a 240 X2.
Almost same as mine. 250 x2 :smug:
No lol. I'm playing it on a 4670 and a 240 X2.
So what are you saying? You can max out source with a 4670 an an athlon x2? I very much doubt you could max out Left 4 Dead with that rig

Either way, it runs nicely.
Feel the force of my doubt

I can vouch for ghostofme. We have similar builds but my CPU is running 200mhz faster. I can max out L4D2 at 1366x768 (4xaa/8xAF). Stays at 60 FPS, 45ish with hordes.
