if they don't make all of the heroes free with the only purchases being cosmetics/xp boosts, they're gonna get fucked
Blizzard has made dumb decisions, shit like the RMAH in D3.
But they are not brain dead retarded, I would be surprised if its not a good F2P model.
There is no way they aren't going to make heroes free, the two big MOBA's do that already.

The RMAH was created to offer an official marketplace instead of the black market that existed in Diablo 2. You can be cynical all you want about the transaction cut Blizzard gets but it was atleast partially implemented for a good reason and far from dumb.

The two big "MOBA's" are Dota 2 and LoL. LoL isn't free, and Dota 2 isn't a MOBA. It's an ASSFAGGOTS (Aeon of Strife Styled Fortress Assault Game Going On Two Sides)
LoL currently dominates the casual market, Dota dominates everything else, whatever's left is HoN's land
who exactly are they trying to cater to? hopelessly lost Blizzard fans?

That's like saying because Call of Duty and Battlefield are the top selling shooters nobody should release shooters anymore.
From what I hear they are catering to people who want a more laid back MOBA experience with the gimmick of playing as Blizzard characters, which, from what I can gather, seem to be pretty well liked.
They'll still make a buttload of money off this no matter how bad or pointless it is.
Blizzard have a incredibly loyal playerbase that eats anything they put out.

That argument could be applied to any genre.

What if it's actually decent though. It's not like they built up such a loyal playerbase by releasing bad, pointless games.
You're right
I wonder if they'll pull it off. If they do the blizzard thing and charge $10 a month it probably won't

How is that a Blizzard thing. The only thing they charge monthly for is WoW because monthly subscriptions were the norm when it released.

no it's more like why should i buy medal of honor warfighter or homefront when i can buy battlefield or call of duty that do the same exact thing but arguably better and are more popular meaning more players to play with

Competition is always a good thing, without it shit stagnates. Look at Valve, if they did something shit to their playerbase what would anybody do? Go to origin and deal with even bigger cocks? That is not what you want. It's arguable whether this stands any chance of making it, but who knows more surprising things have been good.
Well, first off, Allstars will likely be free so you aren't buying anything anyway. If you do have to choose between buying Allstars and playing either Dota 2 or LoL then I'd say they already lost a lot of customers like that anyway.
Secondly I'm pretty sure it won't be worse than LoL. It sets a pretty low bar as far as gameplay goes.

This exactly. Riot got complacent because they had no real competition outside of HoN so development stagnated despite the millions they made every month in microtransactions.

LoL catches a lot of shit completely unfairly, to be honest. It's a great game and it totally deserves it's current place as the most successful MOBA. Considering how they started from scratch with basically no support from a previously successful game/engine and then suddenly they're dealing with the largest weekly playerbase of any game on PC.
I certainly thought I'd never like LoL, I played a bit of DOTA back in the day and figured LoL would be awful, but a few of my friends that played wayyyyy more DOTA than I did really got into it so I eventually gave it a shot and didn't regret it.
