This is my first time putting together my own computer, and I was looking for a bit of input (bwhaha computer joke). I've chosen most of what I need, except for a suitable case and any cooling systems I may need. Price isn't too much of an issue, but I'd like to keep it reasonable.
So far I have chosen:
Mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131363
CPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103692
GPU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130480 (if I end up with a little extra cash, I'll throw it towards the 2gb version)
RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145224
I'm keeping my 700w OCZ PSU and my 320gb SATA II hard drive (no serious need to upgrade it, and it works well enough - save some money if i just use it).
Also, planning on getting Windows 7 64bit Professional.
If there is any problem with this setup, I'd love to know now, rather than later. Also, I'm looking for a simple case really, functionality over fashion. For cooling, I have absolutely no idea what I would need. One last note: I'm dedicated to getting an AMD CPU and a GeForce GPU; suggesting elsewise wouldn't change my mind, I'm fairly stubborn. :downs:
You don't need triple channel RAM on anything other than an i7 motherboard. If you really want 6GB it's better to use a 2x2GB kit and a 2x1GB kit.
You don't need such an expensive motherboard either.
Mobo/CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.296111
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260 (can afford 8GB for same price as RAM you chose)
I know you don't want to change, but with the money you'd save on the above, go with the 5870.

As for case, the HAF932 is always a good choice.

the 2GB would be useless anyway
is it just me or have some of the 5___ prices gone up even more

Thanks! That's exactly what I wanted people to help me with, since I'm not too sure with any specifics, just the general idea (power, need more power!). I'll definitely take your suggestions on mobo/RAM, since I had no real clue about RAM anyway (all I knew is that I needed DDR3). Also, the case looks nice - but I'll see what anyone else has to say about that, because I know nothing.. XD
As for the GPU deal... Well, I don't know. I've always used nVidia and found their products to be wonderful, and I've always felt a vibe that nVidia is supported by more games than ATI. But hey, if I can get something more powerful for cheaper, no reason not to at least look into it. Thankfully, GPUs are the one area where I actually know what's what!
@reapaninja: How would the 2gb be useless? I'll be using 64bit, if that's what you mean... Or are you talking about the 5870?
nVidia are "supported" by more games because they pay more companies to advertise themselves as the best cards for that game.
Well it appears that it worked! Sadly, I won't be able to hop onto that deal on the mobo/CPU at the moment, as I just realized that the offer only lasts until the 1st, but the item itself is still great. Any ideas on if I'll need extra cooling?
Appearances can be deceptive. ATi is currently the leader as far as GPUs go (cost:performance).
Will you overclock a lot? Look into extra cooling if you will, otherwise just keep standard cooling.
