So my GPU just up and died on me, although it hasn't actually died, it's just terribly, terribly sick, when I put it in my screen has white blocks all over it and artifacts errywhere.
But anyways, I need a new GPU clearly, and I was wondering what's good nowadays, I picked this one out, as it has good reviews and is apparently better (i'm judging by the higher number hurr hurr)

whadda think?
feel free to make suggestions with newegg.ca
that's considerably worse than the 4850
IIRC the 5___ series equivalent of a 4850 is a 5750 so you're going to have to increase your budget if you don't want to lose performance
knowing your budget would help
$150 at best
If you raise your budget a bit higher, you could try the hd 5770. I suppose it's a tad bit better than the 4850 and it serves me fine.
if you want to upgrade you could get a gts 450 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125341&cm_re=gts_450-_-14-125-341-_-Product
or a 4870 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150436&cm_re=4870-_-14-150-436-_-Product
or you could save a bit of cash and just get another 4850 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131365&cm_re=4850-_-14-131-365-_-Product

5770 performs about the same as a 4870

Probably, but on the product page, its default core and memory clock are a bit lower than the 5770's. Also depends if the OP cares about DX11 support.
i heard the GTS 450 is better than the 5750 and cheaper price too. I suggest you give it a try. It's only 130$. Idles at 40 C which I think it's quite impressive.
might go for the gts 450

that'd be a great deal, but it doesn't apply to me in Canada
ah shit, didn't see you were using .ca

with shipping it's a little over budget

what about this one?
i'd go with the gigabyte one just because it has an extra fan
That won't really help performance, even if he plans to overclock
That won't really help performance, even if he plans to overclock
But it looks more impressive, and he can say he added the extra fan himself :downs:
Anyhow, go for either of these GTS 450/4870/5770/4890.
