So, my parents said that I could finally get my own laptop, if it is under $1000. I was looking around on the HP websites for some good laptops, and I found one, and customized it a bit, here are the specs:
Operating system- Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Processor- 2nd generation Intel(R) Dual Core(TM) i5-2410M (2.3 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz Graphics card- 1GB DDR3 Radeon(TM) HD 6470M Graphics [HDMI, VGA] Memory- 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) Hard drive- 640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection Security software - No additional security software Primary battery- 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 8.0 hours of battery life +++ Display- 14.0" diagonal High-Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366 x 768) Office software- No Additional Office Software Primary optical drive- SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support Personalization- HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader Networking- Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN with Wireless Display Support Keyboard- Standard Keyboard
Final total :$844.99 (Good price?) Do you guys think this would be good specs for a mostly Source Game related gaming computer? I also was wondering, I heard that Windows 8 is coming out sometime next year, should I wait until it comes out, or buy this one this month? I'm not really sure how I would update a Windows 7 to Windows 8. Hopefully you guys can help me out on this one, thank you.
I wouldn't go with HP they are notorious for breaking.
Can you recommend a reliable/cheap laptop company?
I have a TOSHIBA and it's nice. I'd recommend lenovo or Asus.
You can count on Asus for pretty much everything.
Thinkpads are excellent quality, but bad for gaming performance under $1,000 as they either use integrated graphics or workstation (professional) graphics. Asus is good for a more gaming oriented laptop.
