Do you guys think this would be good specs for a mostly Source Game related gaming computer? I also was wondering, I heard that Windows 8 is coming out sometime next year, should I wait until it comes out, or buy this one this month? I'm not really sure how I would update a Windows 7 to Windows 8. Hopefully you guys can help me out on this one, thank you.
I wouldn't go with HP they are notorious for breaking.

Can you recommend a reliable/cheap laptop company?

I have a TOSHIBA and it's nice. I'd recommend lenovo or Asus.
You can count on Asus for pretty much everything.
Thinkpads are excellent quality, but bad for gaming performance under $1,000 as they either use integrated graphics or workstation (professional) graphics. Asus is good for a more gaming oriented laptop.
