I'm getting a new computer in October, and I really don't want to lose all my programs (I've lost the CD's or Serials to a lot of programs 3:) because it's config is messed up by getting a new computer. So is it possible to save them by somehow copying my Windows Registry into a Virtual PC? (I'm putting the Hard-Drives in my current computer into my new one)
In regedit you can make backups. I've never tried backing up the whole registry, but I know you can backup folders.
It's in the "Registry" menu called "Export Registry File".
Use "Import Registry File" to import it into your new registry.

Awesome, thanks.

True, but still.

If you look hard enough you could just find the keys you need; and not mess up hardware or anything.
Wait, just found this.

it would work if you use the same OS. and same drivers.
If you're gonna move the harddrives anyway, why bother with all that?
