Me and a friend are looking into building a PC and I am wondering which is best, a "AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 245 2.90GHz" or an E8400? Would be used mainly for gaming. Thanks! How would the AMD athlon II x2 250 (read on) handle L4d2 and MW2, would you guess?
E8400.
If you can afford the E8400, go with the Athlon II x2 250, it just barely outperforms the E8400 but it's MUCH cheaper.

Get the 720.
k, will look into it =]
Get a 550 XL. Easily overclockable to 3.5 Ghz on stock cooling and voltages.
If you're comparing a$70 CPU to a $160 CPU, you should consider an Athlon II X4 620. $99 Quad Core. Slightly low clock rate (2.6ghz) but in the long run would be better than both.
I have changed my mind completely. I am going to opt for a Phenom II x4 955, they are a lot cheaper thani assumed and rival even i7's in several aspects...

Really only in gaming which it's more for. i7 is good not only for gaming but other multimedia stuff.
