I'm looking for a laptop for school and gaming. I would strongly prefer a pc. The specs I would like to have are: -Intel 3rd gen i7 processor -Any kind of Nvidia graphics -1TB HD -At least 17 inch screen My price limit is $1,000 - $1,200 I know I could get much better for the price with a desktop but I will be bringing it around very much and I would really prefer a laptop.

[editline]f[/editline] Wait shit, you specified 17 inch screen. Although I really don't recommend a 17" for lugging around school, they're just too damn heavy.

My Asus (G53SW) used to be a bit overheaty and whatnot even with its fuckhueg rear cooling system while my friends' Lenovos never have a problem but it was fixed after a cleaning and repaste so if your lappy is overheating maybe it's time to just take it apart and clean out all the dust / repaste it With the air these things move it's unsurprising they clog up after a while
Wow I looked over the lenovo and that looks really nice! Thanks! [editline]16th June 2013[/editline] I also just found another one that would work for anyone looking for something similar: http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-Pavilion/A3G47AV?HP-Pavilion-dv7t-7000-Quad-Edition-Entertainment-Notebook-PC

They might have good specs but HP gets really hot fast. If you want disassemble it, you will need to dig through the whole laptop.

Seriously, this thing is incredible. It's well built, quick, and handles Metro 2033 at native res like a champ. HP dv7 is known as shitty quality, overheating and bad specs, just to name a few. Also HP consumer laptops overheat in general.
My dv6 overheated also. I wish they would have solved that problem :v:. Looks like lenovos the way to go!

Maybe i should pick one up in a few months. If you own one, are there any nitpicks or caveats?

I read about like 2 people on Facepunch who had SLI issues on the dual gpu ones (my friend also has that, but doesn't have the issue). Otherwise a great laptop! If I used a laptop for anything else but school I would've bought it.

Crystal clear screen, great performance, surprisingly good battery life (I managed four hours while browsing!) and it's just built incredibly well. The keyboard is also great! And the speakers are beyond anything any other laptop around has. (I have the single GPU version, it's a decent performer by itself, running Metro 2033 at 1080p and ~50-60 FPS on normal)
Would this be a good buy? http://outlet.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/outlet_us/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?GroupID=445&Code=59RF0253

Turns out that Lenovo won't ship refurbished items outside of the US so I got this one instead http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/webca/LenovoPortal/en_CA/catalog.workflow:item.detail?GroupID=458&Code=59370001&category_id=3B20BA877A2C60BD831C560F83B08DDE Thanks for your advice guys I'm pretty excited to actually have a decent computer for the first time
I really don't want to start another thread, but anyone know of a good gaming laptop that can play games as good as IdeaPad, but with a touch screen? I know I'm probably asking for a unicorn, just I want something that is put well together and that I could use to read ebooks by just using the screen. If not, I'll probably get the Ideapad
Well it seems like ASUS is about to refresh the VivoBook line. Bestbuy has some models listed on its website, saying "coming soon." This model in particular seems to be comparable to the IdeaPad. The videocard has DDR3 (compared to the IdeaPad's GDDR5) memory which I think is a little slower, but still not bad. The major downside of the VivoBook is it's relatively low 1366 x 768 display.
