I want to start reading comic book, but I don't know where to start. They aren’t like novels where I can just choose the first book and start there. What I am asking is where I should start if I want to start reading comic books. There are so many canon/noncanon storylines that I cannot find the ones that are actually canon.
Transmetropolitan.
tintin
Tintin, one of the best comics ever imo
the walking dead just has a separate book for each volume. you start from volume 1, pretty simple. no confusion about chronology. i don't know if you can get them online but i found them pretty easily at the nearest comic book store
Their are a lot of good comic books out there it really just comes down to taste. The ones already mentioned are pretty good choices and quite easy to follow, so allow me to come with a new set of choices. The comic is set in an alternate 1950's where zombies roam the streets, fishmen control the docks and gipsy curses litter the swamps. It's a comic that loves to use dark comedy and straight forward from beginning to end. It comes highly recommended from a lot of critics and magazines, with good reason. The story is kind of hard to explain, but it contains several archs that start of relatively simple, as in biker gang A dislikes biker gang B, but it ends up having some pretty heavy topics about the metaphysical. If you're interested in checking out Deadpool then the classic series is fantastic. It's a collection of Deadpool stories and appearances throughout the many comic books that have been produced. It's starts off in the Liefeld era which really isn't that good, but about half-way through the collection the writer and artist change and then the Deadpool we've come to know and love emerges. I hope this helps, there are of course some one of stories you might want to check out, like Watchmen and WE3, but shop around some, maybe visit a library, it sure helps to figure out what's on the market.
