What is different between each of them ?
Although I could be wrong: They are essentially the same except Xubuntu is a low memory version and Kubuntu uses KDE.
ubuntu uses gnome, kubuntu uses KDE and Xubuntu uses Xfce. There aren't that much more differences between them other than maybe some applications.
Just the default Desktop environment. Once you've got say Ubuntu installed, you can even do sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop or sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop and try out the others.
what are actually the differences between KDE, Xfce and Gnome?

KDE is prettier than gnome but slower, and XFCE is faster but less user friendly
I could never use XFCE for daily use... it's just not my cup of tea.
I prefer GNOME; it's very user friendly and has a nice look to it.
KDE is prettier than gnome but slower, and XFCE is faster but less user friendly
I personally find KDE's default windows to be hideous.
I think KDE is way over done. I simply didn't care for XFCE and GNOME is what I prefer.
KDE 3 is nice though. KDE 4 is butt-ugly
I'm rocking Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 1 with Kernel 2.6.34-rc1. Pretty stable I'd say. :h:
